they are banning outdoor feeding of the homeless on parkland, claiming it's unsanitary and undignified. (as if digging around in a trash can is the bees' knees.)

they say it's okay to feed on a sidewalk, as long as it's not on park land. (so, feeding people CLOSER to traffic is more sanitary and dignified than being out of the way and in a more comfortable and open space at 20th and the parkway? that's news to me.)

ironically, they hadn't had a problem with this for decades, and only now that the barnes collection* is housed one block away in a $100 million building, they decide that the homeless can't have picnics.

at 4pm today, there will be a protest recreating a seurat painting of people hanging out in the park. https://www.facebook.com/events/352736368124499/

they'll also have a big head of mayor nutter where you can have your picture taken, and be photo bombed on his FB and twitter.

*those of you unfamiliar with the barnes foundation, albert barnes made his money prior to the depression, and purchased a lot of his art when others could not. he was a down-to-earth fellow who was insulted by the elite who weren't ready for impressionism, post-impressionism etc. he only allowed students and the downtrodden to view the collection, and had a feud with annenberg (of the inquirer). after his death, and then the death of his right-hand woman (who managed to keep his wishes intact for a while), things began to spiral out of control, and eventually the pew charitable trusts (and annenberg) managed to take control by promising to raise money (but the money had somehow already been allocated by the state, and the current executors were kept in the dark about that fact.)
now, not only is the collection no longer an educational institution, they're charging $10-$18 for admission, so again, the downtrodden are snubbed. (even students have to pay)
the value of the art is between $25-30 billion. lincoln university (the last in line according to the will) were bought out with $125 million.

This is just awful. The Barnes move infuriated me to begin with (I recommend "The Art of the Steal") but this is just unbelievable.

yeah, i saw the movie just the other day. (they played it at a FNB fundraiser for their eventual legal fees for standing their ground) it made me so sad. the people with money and connections always win. :-( what's the point in writing a will if ambitious people will just overturn it anyway?
