Yesssss vegan ice cream parlor!

Semi-related (and I probably need to cross-post this in the superfluous kitchen gadget thread)... I was eyeing this ice cream maker tonight = http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-ICE-30B ... 009&sr=8-1

Does anyone own an ice cream maker? I feel like it wouldn't be any harder to make a non-dairy ice cream than a dairy-laden one, but are there some tips I should know?

I have one--I haven't had the best luck making ice creams but I have only tried a couple of times. I got Hannah Kaminsky's ice cream e-book and tried the French Vanilla and Maple-Pecan and didn't think the texture of either was great, but I could have done something wrong.

Sorbets are much easier! I also live really close to Franklin's Fountains and so I get lazy and pick up pints of the soy ice cream from there... also I'm now obsessed with coconut milk ice cream that I've been getting from WF but I should probably just try to make my own since I have the appliance now...

Yeah, I love those coconut milk ice creams as well... mmm, but at $5/pint, my wallet doesn't like them. :-(

I tried making coconut milk yogurt a couple times with my yogurt maker, but those turned out runny. More experimentation needed, I think.

i've made bryanna clark grogan's gelatoes and isa's vanilla from veganomicon. (many times. that one reminds me of breyers.)

OMG lets do it! I want my own business SO BAD. But I kinda suck at life and did not go to college. I don't see a bank giving me a loan anytime soon. Could it be a vegan ice cream parlor/bridal salon? Cause I really want my own bridal salon like more than anything.

You should totally buy the ice cream maker! I have a similar Cuisinart ice cream maker, and I love it. I make the recipe from Veganomicon that supercarrot mentioned. (Actually, the first time I made it was inspired by an ice cream photo supercarrot posted, maybe cookies n'cream.) It's such a great base recipe that you can add anything to (chocolate/ mint/nut extracts, nuts, PB, bananas, cookies, whatever flavors you want). Most of the ingredients don't need to be refrigerated before opening (silken tofu, coconut cream, sugar, soy milk powder, soy milk, etc), so you can always keep them on hand. Then, with my ice cream maker, I always keep the bowl in the freezer, so it's ready to go whenever, and it only takes 30 minutes to make once you've blended all the ingredients.

I think doing as many businesses in one as possible is the greatest idea.

Obviously I do not know my donuts! However, whatever kind you want to make I will eat with plenty of ice cream. I want some pumpkin ice cream really bad. But haven't found any in Whole Foods. Yes, I know I can make my own, but I am too damn lazy for all of that. And I would have to buy an ice cream maker.

So, quick hurry like a bunny and lets open this store so I can have vegan pumpkin ice cream for next year!

(Seriously, someone teach me how to look desirable to a bank so they will grant me a small business loan)

I'M ON IT! I will make amazing pumpkin ice cream. And every single other imaginable flavor. But my specialty will be dark chocolate with peanut butter, caramel, and marshmallow swirls with chocolate covered graham pieces. On a banana waffle. Yeah. THAT JUST HAPPENED.
