Vegan Treats pushes for Horns to remove taxidermy from walls in Bethlehem
Quote:
Danielle Konya loved the fact that she could get her hands on vegan fare at Horns, a Bethlehem restaurant.

She was less than thrilled about enjoying it among the animal heads decorating the restaurant’s walls.

“Many people, including myself, don’t feel comfortable eating a delicious seitan cheesesteak or buffalo tempeh wrap while staring at the preserved corpse of a beautiful animal,” Konya says in an email interview.

. . .

Zervos says that since he removed the animal heads last week, he’s noticed two things: positive responses from customers and a boost in vegan/vegetarian menu sales.

“I was open to her idea and (pretty much) agreed right away,” Zervos says in an email interview. “… I had no idea that more than just a few people were bothered by it.

“It is something I grew up around so I just never thought that much of it,” Zervos says.

Zervos explains that he’s taking Horns, a burger shop at 123 W. Fourth St., “in a new direction.” They’ve always had vegetarian options at the store, but Zervos says now well over half the menu is vegan/vegetarian.

It is awesome. I'd never been there because of the animal heads but when they hired my friend as their new head chef she brought a lot of awesome vegan options to the menu (SPECULOOS WAFFLES with some apple and pear concoction on top need i say more) i couldn't resist. She (amber) was pushing taylor to remove the heads too esp with their expanded menu options. Anyway with her as chef and no more animal heads i definitely highly recommend this place now.

Hey friends! I'm going to be near Allentown/Bethlehem this weekend! Is anyone free on Sunday? We can go here or wherever!

I had been to Horn's a few of times and I don't think I had even noticed the heads! Hah. I remember it being kind of dark.

I'm very excited that they seem to be expanding their vegan options. I will have to stop by next time I'm in town. I love that I can walk there from the bus station!
