Well, after many years of pondering why the heck we don't have our own VegFest, the Humane League's Philadelphia office is stepping up and making our dreams come true!!! Saturday June 14th at the Shambles in Headhouse Square!

Everything is still in the planning phase, but I just wanted to put this on everybody's radar! Get excited!!

Did anyone else make it to Vegfest? I was kinda disappointed the street wasn't closed off for it. Cause it was way too crowded when I was there around noon-ish. Not so easy when you have little kids!

Also, what is V Steet? Is that another project from from Vedge? What were they serving? It looked like yummy little tacos or something. Couldn't get close enough to see.

It was SO crowded, which was both great and annoying (but mostly great!) V Street is Vedge's upcoming bar in Rittenhouse, due to open in a couple months. They were serving trumpet mushroom tacos with what I think was hummus and some type of tabouli-ish salad. I ate it without really knowing what I was eating, but it was tasty!

It was amazing to see 300 people there within 15 minutes of it starting! I agree it could have been spaced out better but there were a ton of food vendors (Vegan Commissary, Miss Rachel's Pantry, V Street, Soy Cafe, Raw Can Roll, Whole Foods, Sweet Freedom, SipnGlo, HipCityVeg, and I'm missing a few) and a lot of other vegan-related tables. The highlight of the day was Miss Rachel's hand pies!

the one thing that bugged me is that you didn't know who was selling food vs giving out free samples. we stood in vegan commissary's line for 20 minutes and just ended up ordering stuff since we had spent all that time in line. (the burger was mushy and uninteresting but the cheesesteak was very tasty)

we showed up around 2:00, and we missed out on the hand pies and the scrapple. :-( it was cool to experience, though. just quite overwhelming, and it would have been nice for vendors who were selling stuff to be on one end with more space, and those who weren't selling stuff to be on the other end so their tables weren't covered up by bodies in line.

great job with it though. too bad you couldn't extend the fest down to south street. the extra space would have been helpful.

it's great that beyond mayo was there. i wouldn't have tried their flavored mayos otherwise, and now i think we'll keep at least the chipotle mayo on hand. i might even be interested in trying the basic mayo again in case they improved it at all.
