The very very very very very best vegan chinese food in Philadelphia and beyond!! Not to be a hater, Golden Empress sucks, especially if you want real meat in your fake meat dish. And the "mock meats" are not good. Su Xing only has one good dish, the rest is sub par and their menu is really weird. They don't even serve vegan fortune cookies, a shame! haven't been to Kingdom since Ming sold it, but I hear its pretty tasty still, and have new things on the menu like mock lamb. I'm a pretty big Ming fan anyway and stay loyal to his business.

Things on the menu that I really love:
Wonton Soup
Scallion Pancakes
Vegetable Pancakes (like veggie latkes with this creamy sauce on top)
Fried Wontons
Sesame beef!!!!
Chicken and string beans
Walnut Jumbo Shrimp
House mixed vegetables (simple but well done, ask for extra ginger if you're into that)
Sesame chicken
Mongolian pork
Orange beef
Szchezuan string beans (it has these really salty pickled things mixed in, yum!)
Ham fried rice (They use the salty ham tubey, good stuff!)
Sesame balls!
Ask Ming to make you what he makes himself sometime, it's not on the menu and he always makes something tasty and authentic.

They also serve Vegan Treats cheesecake and not-so-secret: they get Vegan Treats doughnuts too, on Thursday like the rest of Philly.

Yumm!

I agree that New Harmony is the best vegan Chinese food in town. The food is good and Ming is so nice. I will have to try the ham fried rice now that I know it is made with ham tubey goodness. Love. Ham. Tube.

My New Harm faves:
Sesame Beef
Sesame Beef with Peanut Sauce
Orange Beef
Scallion Pancake
Vegetable Pancake
Steamed Roast Pork Bun

Now that you can reserve the private room downstairs for eating and/or karaoke, there is no reason to go elsewhere! New Harmony wins!

All the better reason to! Nobody should be without New Harmony!

I haven't either. I'm a bad Philly vegan.

My family and I went to New Harmony last night. Here's what we ordered:

Dim Sum:
Sesame Chicken
Steamed Pork Buns
Fried Wontons

Soup:
New Years Soup

Entree:
Walnut Shrimp
Chicken with spicy pepper and broccoli

My overall rating of the food is ok. I feel that they have so many options on their menu that this enables them to focus on making a few things exceptionally good. The two main entree's were really sauce heavy, which I dislike. I doubt I will make a trip to New Harmony again. I think if I was already downtown, hungry, and in Chinatown, I might stop by for their cheap Dim Sum as a snack.

I feel that if you want and all around satisfying Chinese meal you need to get out to Su Tao in Malvern, PA. They're dishes are much more flavorful and a better quality of cooking.

Su Tao is good, but man, that buffet is dangerous! :-)

I completely disagree. I find that su tao is sub par at best and the quality kinda stinks. Also they had things at the desert buffet that were clearly not vegan, which is always questionable.

Hmm, maybe you didn't try the right things! :)

Do you recall what items you thought were not vegan? The owners are vegan themselves so I would hope not!

I freaking LOVE New Harmony. My bf and I drive up from Delaware at least once a month to go crazy at their $12 all you can eat Sunday buffet. The spring rolls, sesame chicken, and sweet n sour chicken are amazing......... BUT NOTHING BEATS THOSE FRIED VEGGIE PANCAKES WITH THE CREAMY DRESSING! zomg, I am drooling just thinking about it. We're driving up in another week or so.

But unlike the rest of Philly, they're only $2! Or at least Govinda's, that's the only other place I've gotten then, they are like $2.75 there.

ah, we went here again last night for the buffet. I didn't mention this but the one thing I <3 about this restaurant is that it's BYOB. This means I don' t have to pay upwards of $28 for an overpriced bottle of potentially non-vegan wine. Instead, I can bring a $6 bottle of Yellowtail Cab Sav and simultaneously partake in two of my absolute favorite things-- cheap wine and greasy food.

They were out of donuts though :( I was looking forward to a chocolate or blueberry glaze.
