I might be in Philly sometime? For now, I'm just reading about all the cool vegan food that's just a little too far away from me.

I'm in Center City on Chestnut - sucks! It's so freaking loud and obnoxious and expensive. I need something cheaper, but not too out of the way, and relatively safe.

Randi, I just ate the last of the coconut cake from Saturday (there is still chocolate-brownie-whatever left). This is remarkable, since 24 hours ago, after a day of sampling mostly sweet vegan goodies and then downing a Terri's butterfinger shake, I was not sure I would ever eat again.

Hahahahah you are hilarious! I gave the all the cookies & cream cake away yesterday - most to my mom, big pieces to my aunt and cousin. They all called today to say they finished it all. How can you resist it! I'm so glad you enjoyed the Veg Fest and got a Terri shake! OH apparently V-Note has butterfinger shakes too!

Hmm, well I live the suburban life in Ardmore for the better public schools. So if your single without kids, I'm not much help! :)

Ardmore is pretty much where I'm from! I'm there every weekend in the suburban square farmers market (I visit my fam in order to get free groceries). Good choice :)

Nice! I'm at the Trader Joe's each week! But I have to buy my own groceries, dang.

It's a cute area. Not the most exciting or diverse neighborhood. But it's good for families, park play and some peace and quite.

i could see cc being annoying with people always around. do you need something near the train? if so if you move north or south youll need to stay close to broad or stay near the l in n. liberties/fishtown.

Yeah I've rarely been to N. Libs/Fishtown; when it's nicer I really need to explore this city. For someone who has lived here for so long I really stayed in a 6 block radius (it seems).

Vote for an area for me to live in:

Rittenhouse
Farther southish Rittenhouse (like Spruce-Lombard in teens)
Fitler Square
Graduate Hospital (is it still danger zoney?)
4th and Lombard

Willing to take more suggestions

I think one of the first 3 areas, definitely. I really loved living in rittenhouse. I'd say south of walnut, north of south street from like 24th street to broad. That's a fairly long range. I would be miserable living at 4th and lombard, especially in the summer with all that South street nonsense. And graduate hospital area is nice with all the new constructions, but a few blocks away is point breeze, which is NOT nice .

I live on 16th and Mifflin, a few blocks away from the Snyder BSS station, and I love my neighborhood. Just puttin' that out there.

I, too, am considering moving. My thoughts on these neighborhoods:

Fitler Square and Rittenhouse West (my current hood): Lovely. You need to tolerate kids and families. Obviously there are nice parks, and also Markward Playground and the bark park. It's convenient to a lot of things, except trains and the subway. Parking: bad. Safety: excellent, but you are still in Philly. Not the cheapest neighborhood, esp. for rentals, which are not as common in these areas.

GradHo: It's still a cheaper neighborhood than the blocks to the north of it (Fitler/Rittenhouse) but it's changing - there are a lot of renovation projects down there. It's not a well-defined neighborhood, so some listings that are allegedly GradHo may be too far south to be safe. It depends what your idea of safe really is. I'd say that the decline starts at South, but I would consider anything down to Catharine or even Christian. But I may have a higher tolerance for low levels of safety.

Rittenhouse South is nice - sort of a cross between GradHo and Rittenhouse - but it can be loud esp. over by Ave of Arts around 16th.

4th and Lombard (Society Hill?)... I'm with xstartxtodayx on this one - wouldn't want to live so close to the South Street District, but at least you're close to Blackbird! Another area around there I would consider is around Fabric Row - I'm thinking east of say, 8th down to Queen Street. Still close to South, but also close(ish) to Grindcore!

My vote: if you can afford it, try to find a place in Fitler Square or Rittenhouse South/West. Otherwise, the western part of GradHo as far south as Fitzwater is good, and likely to stay that way with more yuppies moving into Naval Square.

Thanks everyone. Philadelphegan I think that's my conclusion too. I still have 2.5 months until I have to move, so hopefully something affordable in those 2 sections will come up. Are you looking in the same areas?

Also, where is your avatar!
