I love love Indian food and eat it all that time at home. Will be traveling to London in a couple of weeks and want to make sure I check out some restaurants there. What are your fav places?

My local fave is Jai Shri Krishna located at 10 Turnpike Lane, London N8 0PT. If you're just visiting London then that is a bit out of the way from any touristy things but I recommend a visit if you have time, it's right by turnpike lane tube station, so not hard to find. It's a vegetarian place that doesn't use ghee, so it's almost entirely vegan and they do plenty of cheap curries including some unusual ones. My favourites include pumpkin curry, coconut rice, this potato and tomato dish they do with lots of cumin and their samosas are good too. Oh, they don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own if you like.

If you're in central, there is a place in Picadilly called Woodlands that is vegetarian. I've never actually been, but I've seen the menu before and thought it looked interesting. On the expensive side though.

On the expensive side though. Woodlands is a pretty common name for South Indian veg restaurants, I'm still not 100% sure whether they are a chain, or linked by a 'concept', or whatever. I'm not sure I've been to the Picadilly one, but I went to one in Bond St. area years ago that was definitely decent and then some.

I've been to branches of Sagar in Hammersmith and the one of Tottenham Court Road. They have a separate vegan menu if you ask for it. Both have been very good. Also, if you happen to find yourself near East Ham it's a haven of vegetarian South Indian and Sri Lankan food. I like Saravanna Bavan there the best. There's a couple of branches of Rasa - Keralan food - around too. The one in Stoke Newington is all vegetarian but the others have plenty of vegetarian food. They're pricier - more like going out for a fancy meal, but the food is good and the staff know what's in the food.

Well, the one in Picadilly is part of a group of 3, the other two are in marylebone and Hampstead. I had no idea woodlands was a common name for Indian restaurants, thought they were all called Tandoori ha

Woodlands London is part of the huge worldwide chain of Woodlands in India. I've been to one in Singapore and I think they're all over the US but again not sure if they're the same chain.

This place is amazing. We often visit with a large group & they clearly label everything on the buffet which is vegan. They even have deserts that are vegan... http://www.chutneyseuston.co.uk/

If you have time, I'd head out to Southall in West London one evening. It's an Indian area and has many excellent restaurants, though not necessarily vegetarian (I particularly like 'Brilliant'). The area's got a unique feel and is well worth a visit in its own right.

In fact, Drummond Street is pretty much an Indian paradise, and there's the added attraction of a truly terrific pub (the Bree Louise) right around the corner...I've never seen so many proper draught ciders in one place! http://www.thebreelouise.com
