Hi guys,

I'm going to Birmingham in a month or so. I've never been before so I would really appreciate any recommendations for places to eat & things to see/do .

Thanks

Do you know yet where you are staying?

I have no suggestions yet, but I'm going tomorrow for a couple of nights on my way North. I'm staying in the Jewellery Quarter (?), and will let you know what I find.

I'm staying with a non-vegan friend. Not sure where exactly (I'll ask) but I'm sure they'd be up for going to some good places for vegans. I always like exploring the local health food shops when I go to a new place as well as the veggie cafe/restaurants.

Mendelian, hope you have a good time.

Oh hey, so I had look in the window of The Warehouse Cafe but it was super busy so didn't go in but I've heard it's awesomesauce. I did venture in to Woktastic for lunch, though. Their sushi is pretty good (esp the yatai handroll).

The Warehouse Cafe looks great. I hope we can get there. Thanks Mendelian!

Can totally recommend The Warehouse. There's basically three options in Brum, in order of personal preference:

Some vegans like cafe soya, but I didn't find their staff to be very clueful about veganism:

There's a new place in the centre, but it's a volunteer / community cafe and I'm not sure how regularly it's open.

I volunteer here!

It's called Veged Out - and it's open:
Tuesday 11-4
Wednesday 11-4
Thursday 11-4
Friday 11-4
Saturday 10-2

(but hot food is only served 12-2 on weekdays)
It's quite basic food but there's loads of vegan options, including cake, and you get massive portions for £4.

Another vote for the Warehouse Cafe! I went earlier this week, and it was really quiet, but the waitress was lovely and I really liked the burger/wedges I ordered.

Thanks everyone. Just got back from a great weekend.

We went to Jyoti on Friday night. It was lovely to have such a massive choice of food, if not a little overwhelming!
We were going to go to the Warehouse Cafe on Saturday but unfortunately when my friend tried to book a table they said they were booked up weeks in advance.

Maybe next time.

That sucks - can only assume that a big group of people booked most of the tables in that case. Normally you can just turn up / book less than 2 hours before.
