I'm getting married in April and my boyfriend and I are wanting to go to Barcelona and rent an apartment for a week or two.
Has anyone been to Barcelona recently and what was it like for vegans?

I went in September and got by pretty easy. One thing to know is that a lot of the Tapas bars' salads are pre-made, so it's not always easy to ask those places to just take out the cheese! You might have to order off the menu.
But there is Maoz if you like falafel, actually there's 2 of them! (aweseome, we went there twice) and there's quite a lot of places that do veggie paella. It was really hot when I went so I mainly lived off Maoz or salads in the day and then paella or pizza without the cheese at night, not very adventurous I'm afraid. Most of the veggie tapas options were cheese based.
I hear that Barcelona is very vegan friendly, but I went with an omni friend who isn't really a foodie, so I didn't really get to explore vegan places/options as much as I'd have liked unfortunately.

Just saw this. I've been in Barcelona for 6 months and found it pretty darn good for vegans. You've probably got most of the best places already. My fave restaurants are: Juicy Jones and Gopal (whose cakes are supplied by lujuria vegana and are certainly not to be missed. Wokimarket and Maoz are chains which are useful if you're out and about and both good. There are some good shops too- I loved jaime renobell which is a bulk bin place where you can buy grains, nuts, dried fruit, beans, flours etc by weight and it works out really cheap and there's a huge selection. Also for vegan products check out veganoteca. I used to go to biospace health food store quite frequently as it was near me, pretty big and was not too expensive. The main health food store chain is Veritas which is decent but beware of the cost! Oh, I can't forget Gelaaati di Marco! http://www.quarrygirl.com/2011/03/27/ge ... barcelona/ It's just a regular Italian gelateria but they also have a selection of soya and rice based ice creams, and all the sorbets are vegan. The local government have just created a guide featuring all the veg restaurants in Barca, which you might also find useful..... http://www.tvanimalista.com/wp-content/ ... 11.592.pdfHave a great time!

I know this is an old tip but I'll have to look out for it! It's already been said but BCN is a great place to be vegan, happy cow gives a really good guide. My favourite palce is Gopal, also like CatBar. Some of the other places such as Juicy Jones and Veggie Garden are just a bit too health-foody for me. What can I say, I like my vegan junk food!
