Please don't hate me if I'm going over old ground, but I've just done a wee search of the olde threads and nothing was *quite* the right fit.

If you've experienced good vegan options in Manchester or Greater Manchester, please post here! I know there are a small number of veggie/vegan only places, but I wonder about other ones, like Dough pizza kitchen in the Northern Quarter that offers vegan cheese etc (http://www.doughpizzakitchen.co.uk/)

Anyway, last night I went with a bunch of friends to Spicy Hut on the curry mile - their website shows vegan options and they will veganize pretty much anything on the menu for you: http://www.spicy-hut-rusholme.co.uk/

They were totally lovely about making me a mushroom curry - I'd recommend it. Not only is it nice to have multiple vegan options, but the added bonus of not being looked at like you are mentally ill when you ask about said options is just marvellous.

Anyone else had any good experiences?

p.s. I know there is a Manchester Lunch Places thread, but this is for restaurants, dinners, etc. I hope that is ok!

Mod's Vegan Cafe at the Thirsty Scholar is great for a BIG meal.

I went to Simple on Tib Street a few months ago and had this 'Roasted Aubergine spinach, mushroom & vegan mozzarella
on toasted foccacia' (vegan).

It was pretty much the best sandwich ever.

I LOVE Spicy Hut so much! You have to try the Aubergine Bhajee as a main dish. I ordered it once as an accompaniment to my Vegetable Karahi, naively thinking it would be similar to an Onion Bhajee, but it's an actual curry dish and is so succulent, tender and flavoursome that I order it every time now! Plus they deliver to city centre flats and they even give you a "tasteful" gift at Christmas for being a loyal customer. We had a beautiful faux silver plastic clock one year that lives deep in the cupboard. My mouth is watering just thinking about the wonders of that place... ooh! ooh! and they'll happily make you a garlic chapatti that's totally vegan if you ask. I LOVE THEM!!!

I might have to try Spicy Hut - just checked the menu and it sounds yum.

Has anyone been to Simple on a Friday evening? I'm trying to think of somewhere to go Friday night with 3 of my relatives, all non vegan, but I wonder if Simple will be full of
people drinking not eating and it'll be one of those can't hear yourself think places. It needs to be city centre - does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply, I've been before, it's pretty okay. Sometimes you need to book a table though because it can get quite busy. It's quite nice when it gets warmer because you can grab a seat outside.

Thanks for the Simple tip. Managed to book a table and printed a couple of money off vouchers from their website. That aubergine sandwich is gorgeous!! The 3 meat eaters were really happy with their food too. I sent them a tweet to say how much we'd enjoyed it and they said their new menu in April will have even more vegan things. They are trialling soya milk for a couple of weeks too to see how it goes.

That's really cool. That aubergine sandwich, oh man, I wish I could eat it now. I don't know why I don't go there more often actually. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm keen to try their burger but I think I'd have to have that sandwich again. I'll have to take another vegan next time! I hope the sandwich doesn't go on the new menu.

I hope it doesn't either. I'm going to have to make sure that I go back soon so that I can have it again.

We'll be stopping in Manchester on our honeymoon. Any new and exciting places to eat/drink at? We'll be staying with my aunt in Chorlton. Can I find Vegusto at Unicorn?

Yep they sell Vegusto in Unicorn, and now Bistro 1847 has a Chorlton restaurant too, pretty much across the street :)

Also - the falafel & hoummous wrap at Black Dog Ballroom is vegan, as is the Rustica pizza (but ask for no cheese), plus they can veganize their amazing battered dill pickles and onion rings if you ask. I loooooove deep fried things mmmmmmm...

If you have Vouchercloud on your phone it's buy one get one free on main meals in the week. And if you needed any more persuasion, Bruce the dog is often scurrying around the place and he is the friendliest, gentlest pup you could hope to meet!

I have to just rant and rave about Dandelion & Burdock in Sowerby Bridge - within reach of manchester on the list above. It seriously is THE most amazing vegan restaurant. Go go go :) Cannot praise it enough!

I went to Koreana off Deansgate today and it was really good. The waitress was really helpful in talking through what could be made without egg. Ive made Korean food before but only eaten it out once, and that was at Amitabul in Chicago, so I can't make any comparisons really, but it was good and I liked the place a lot.

I ate at 1847 (both branches) over the weekend and they were pretty good. The doughnuts with sticky toffee sauce were a great special at Chorlton and the chocolate torte in the city branch was divine.

Also had a vegan pizza at Dough and they do two lovely vegan desserts - chocolate brownie & peanut butter blondie with Swedish Glacé ice cream and chocolate cookie (with a hint of chilli) ice cream sandwich. I had the brownie/blondie and got the cookies to take away for the next day (so no ice cream sandwich) but next time I'd take away the brownie/blondie instead as they aren't crumbly and are served cold anyway and I think the cookie ice cream sandwich would be better eaten in. The desserts are made by Lilly & Dilly and were also gluten free.

I really missed Sweet Tooth in Chorlton, they closed down in December. I hear V Revolution has great cakes and sandwiches but I didn't find out til Saturday evening so couldn't make it there this time.
