I'm going to a conference @ Northumbria University in Newscastle at the end of the month (19-23). I found three recommended restaurants on Happy Cow (Painted Elephant, Super Natural and Sky Apple Cafe). Are there any other places the PPK can recommend? Vegan friendly advice is also welcome, as I will probably be steering a couple of group dinners. Thanks!

In my experience, the Sky Apple Cafe is hit and miss for vegans. Painted Elephant has good tea, but when I visited they'd run out of most of the vegan stuff. I've never been to the other place.

Vegan friendly places - Las Iguanas has a vegan menu. Pizza Express can do cheeseless pizza. Wagamama has an allergen chart that shows what can be made vegan.

Thank you! Google mapping Las Iguanas led to the discovery of a vegan-friendly burrito bar: http://www.zapatistaburrito.com/

Ooh, good to know for the next time I'm there! That place is pretty much right outside the train station.

I forgot to mention that Scrumpy Willow and the Singing Kettle (I think that's the full, overly long name) does a really good breakfast. It's an omni place, but they have a lot of options and they're really central (which you might have noticed Sky Apple is not).
