Short answer... No, it's not available. Apparently a bunch of it has been tasting a tad fishy now anyway... I'm sure the 'Mercans can alert you to what tastes closest, but in the aforementioned thread this homemade butter replacement was suggested. Personally I've never eaten butter in my life, my mum always buying those huge tubs of Stork 'cooking' margarine to be used for anything and everything, so I don't feel as if I'm missing anything!

but... people seem to call it butter? I guess that's just a language thing, then.

I thought it tasted more like salted butter than anything we can get in the UK.

it doesn't necessarily taste like dairy butter, but it also doesn't taste as chemically as regular margarine. it's just good and salty. I haven't noticed the fishiness yet.

ok, i concede. i have no idea what european margarine tastes like. :-)
it tastes like what i remember fleischmann's margarine to taste like. (and i hadn't had that in over 10 years, so, i could even be completely wrong on that too)
salty and slightly savory solid oil?

UK vegan margarine is better anyway. And there are more brands.

I've always used Vitalite in its stead and never had any problems.

I think it's much more salted buttery than any of the margarines we can get here. 2 or 3 times in America I had to check whether they'd given me dairy butter by mistake, such was the difference.

vijita wrote: UK vegan margarine is better anyway. And there are more brands. I've got to agree. There's nothing really close to Earth Balance here in taste, but it's SO salty I don't like it. My partner loves it though so I think, as Jojo and Liz mentioned, it does taste more like actual salted butter than anything we can get here. #GiveMeMSG #ThisIsTwitterRight

Vitalite is the closest to butter I've tasted in the UK, though I actually prefer Pure.

The blue pure (organic) was the bestest 'butter tasting' vegan marg ever - too bad it got withdrawn.

Thanks for the all your posts. I don't usually get into 'fakery' too much but have been using tofu for a saag paneer dish. I've managed to get the texture of the tofu near perfect, but a critique has been that it needs more flavour and I thought the 'buttery' EBS might have done the trick!
