I wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the Yard, but I decided on here because I don't want 50 replies telling me about what people use in the US.

So, I'm getting a cat on Saturday. He's a rescue (yay!), and he's getting Whiskas at the shelter. I know Whiskas is made by a horrible company that tests on animals, so I need to find something that isn't. I'm not looking for vegan cat food - I know cats need meat - so I'm really just looking for something that isn't owned by a company that tests on animals.

What does everyone else feed their cat? I thought I saw somewhere that Co-op cat food is non-tested, but I didn't see it again in the search I just did. I'm just looking for a few options, particularly those that don't require me to order online (but I guess I will if I have to).

Also, while I'm at it, what kind of litter do you use?

Wet food: After lots of trying different foods with our cat, they were all too rich for him (he spent the first nine years of his life eating jelly-y sugary 'meat' crepe) and made him sick. So we now dilute Nature's Menu with Tesco crepe.

Dry food: Almo Nature biscuits.

Keep an eye out on ebay for bulk buying cheaper food when you find one your cat likes. It can be slightly cheaper than usual. Through a listing error, I once got 48 sachets of Nature's Menu food for £11 including postage.

I like using Acana for dry food. You might be able to get it in some decent pet shops, or get them to order it for you. I buy mine online from zooplus. Wet food I can't help with since my fatty is incredibly fussy and will only deign to eat schmusy which is hardly a step up from whiskas.
