It's been sitting in my cupboard for longer than I want to admit, and I am just wondering what I could do with this stuff? I have heard it's like dog food, and since then the tide of canned goods has been pushing it further and further back into the cupboard.
So... any suggestions?

Ace. I really hope Holleylopez comes and gives her view on it. I asked the exact same question a while ago. I fried mine in some hoisin sauce and had it in tortillas with cucumber shreds. It was OK but I haven't bought it since.

Oh what and use it like mock dock? hmm.. that's a suggestion, but a friend of mine said it was very delicate and flaked really easily?
Come on! More people must people must have purchased this!

Find a hungry dog? Sorry, bought it once but never again. I think it's designed to live in the back of food cupboards for ever!

This is making me want so buy some out of autosadism and "it can't be that bad" curiosity.

I've said this before in another thread bout Marigold, I'm sure - but I think the best way to prepare at in of Marigold is: 1) open the tin 2) dump foetid mess in bin 3) recycle tin

Here's a link to the previous thread: http://tinyurl.com/clsvbttMaybe it would be OK if someone else opened the tin and then prepared it for you, and only told you after you'd eaten it what it was!

Golly! I was staring at a tin of it today in Holland and Barret (had gone to check out what they offer- usually I don't venture much to real shops, especially if they involve a car ride!). I eventually got a tin of mock duck instead, out of curiosity... I shall now search to find out what to do with it, hoping it at least isn't described as 'like dog food'!

I braved it and opened the tin. It was remarkably flakey, so i recided to do the whole 'taste of the sea' thing like it suggests on the tin, and perhaps recreate tuna as it seemed to have the same sort of appearance. I rinsed it, then squeezed it. And to it i added; sea salt, chopped spring onion, a squeeze of lemon juice, a splash of ACV and nori flakes. I enjoyed it on a sandwich with mayo and sweetcorn.

I think the flakiness sounds good. I want to try this but is the flavour what is gross?

The flavour's pretty good, it's the texture and gooeyness that's weird. If I bought it again I'd put it in something like a burrito, where I didn't have to look at it.

Squeeze most of the oil out, break it up a bit, roast it for about 30 mins in the oven, til it starts to go crispy. I wouldn't eat it raw, but love it done like this.

I tried it a few times years ago and gave up. The only vaguely edible way of eating it that I found was straight from the can.

The mock duck is gluten isn't it? The safflower oil gives the tofu a lovely flavour and squeezing the oil out & roasting gives it a pretty nice texture.
When are we hanging out this week? Tomorrow or Thursday suits me, I have a full day on Saturday so should really stay at home on Friday.
