Maybe you got an off batch. I didn't think mine were bready and the icing seemed pretty standard. I might have to get more to test this out.

but of course ... quality control testing! with a complete report to be submitted to us ...

In the interests of science, I got more donuts today. I still thought they were good, and I got them at the end of the day. So I'm thinking maybe y'all got a shitty batch or something. Either that or we have different taste in donuts.

Well, I got more yesterday, and I think they're just a bit hit and miss, even within the same package. One of my chocolate donuts was dry and a bit bready, while the others were fine. And some of the icing on the vanilla ones was runny while the rest wasn't.

Overall I like them, but I think they require continuous investigation. Because, you know, good science requires multiple trials.

I applaud your willingness to sacrifice yourselves in this way for the betterment of science, ladies.

WAIT WAIT WAIT. These donuts, which flavours? Do they come in a box? Or are they the ones you pick out yourself?

They're in a plastic container, 4-pack, plain donuts with either vanilla icing/chocolate sprinkles or chocolate icing/chocolate sprinkles. I've seen them in packs of 4 of one flavour and 2 of each.

BTW, I also saw a pack of apple pastries that had the same label (only allergens listed were gluten and wheat). Does anyone know anything about these?

Rachel, which Co-op did you find the donuts at? If you don't mind revealing where you shop, and possibly having me buy up all the donuts :P I haven't been able to find them yet.

I consistently find them at the Co-op on McDonald Road at Hopetoun Crescent. If you're going towards Leith down Leith Walk, you'd go left at McDonald Road, and it'll be straight ahead on the left side of the road. I've checked the other 2 branches along Leith Walk, and neither of them had the donuts, but they've been at this one all 3 times I've checked.

the Co-op closest to me has been revamped and I arrived home to find news of the glory it now contains as well as coupons for 2 quid off a 10 quid order ... I will be going there on Friday & carrying home £10 of donuts!

Jack Daniels Smokey BBQ Sauce reduced to clear at my Co-op. About £1.65 a bottle!

Not sure how new this actually is, but I was in Asda buying bogroll this evening and when I have to go to Asda I always check out their allergy section, and they had jars of own brand Chocolate and Hazelnut Spread, £1.80 for 400g, which seems reasonable, and vegan looking ingredients, "lactose free" on the front, although a "not suitable for milk allergy sufferers" warning on the back.

I didn't buy it though, because I'm on a diet and stuff like that I will eat by the half jarful with a spoon, if it's any good! Someone else should buy it and report back so I can live through them vicariously!

So, sitting comfortably? I get off the bus to go into the newly opened Co-op who sent me a flyer with enticing mention of their in-store bakery ... I am of course looking for donuts in order to make a reasonable U.K. comparison with what is on offer to the north in splendid Edinburgh.

There is no enticing aroma of baked goods but not to be deterred I make my way through the crowded aisles to find a short shelf holding some baked goods in plastic boxes ... I look at all of them ... I even read the labels on the jutting out shelf to make sure the items are not mixed up ... I see NO donuts ... I look below the shelf where there are open baskets with pastry ... none of it resembles a donut ...

Slight panic rising in my chest I stop a staff member ' do you not have any donuts here?' ... 'No, we don't' 'Not just right now? (said with a rising tone in my voice) 'no, we do not have them at this store.' ... did he look as if he cared? He did not!

Perhaps the Co-Op does not think we Sassenachs do not deserve any!

Here is the horrid shop - https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4025/421 ... 79f7_m.jpg

Anne, taking comfort in it being Gin&Tonic Friday!

I think I mentioned the apple puff pastry things upthread. Well, I found a Co-op that had them in a box with the ingredients list, and they appear to be vegan! We had some with ice cream last night, and they were lovely. And since I got them in a Co-op that didn't have donuts, I suspect they'll be more widely available than the donuts.

The hazelnut chocolate spread, I have it! :)

It's delicious. Just like I remember it to be as a kid. Vegan nutella! I have only eaten about a spoonful and I daren't have anymore lest I eat the whole tub at once :p

Ah, good to know, vixki. I will look forward to buying it in four months time, it can be an early Christmas present to myself.

I finally found it in stock, haven't tried it yet. Also got the chip shop curry sauce to try even though I never have curry sauce on my chips! (There were 8 best before May 13 jars so I guess it's not that popular around here.)

I know they aren't new, but I've fallen in love with the alpro 'no bits' yoghurts. When I was little and in Germany there was a fromage frais dessert called Fruchtzwerge, and my mum would never let me have it because they're more unhealthy than eating a kilo of sugar with a spoon. Well, these alpro yoghurts taste EXACTLY like them. Probably because there's lots of sugar in them, but I don't care. Sorry Mum.

[quote="Babychimp91"]Fruchtzwerge/quote]I just thought I'd share it with everyone that that means "Fruit Dwarves" and for some reason* it may made me laugh.

It is an exceptionally stupid name. Especially because you can get them in large and small. What does that mean? Tall dwarves and short dwarves? Fat dwarves and skinny dwarves? Made of GMO fruit and made of normal fruit? Enjoy the beer.

I like interesting food names! I've been reading a load of cookbooks focussing on regional food recently, and the name 'Singing' Hinnies' has stuck in my head (they are a griddle cake that 'sings' as the fat cooks them), every so often as I go about my business the words will pop into my head and make me happy.
