I did a search, but didn't find any related topics!

Does anyone know of a place that offers a vegan afternoon tea option in London?

I'll be traveling there next week (yay!) and my travel buddy would lurve to go to tea. I don't mind going and watching them enjoy their meal, while I sip some tea, but it'd be awesome to find a place that caters to vegans.

I've started googling, but if anyone has any experiences, would love some ideas!

You can get vegan options at some of the big department stores, but most of them also sell Foie Gras so not many support them. It's worth checking Selfridges though, maybe?

It's a bit out of the way, but Le Chandelier in Dulwich has the most amazing vegan afternoon tea - I went there with an omni group for a hen party (I called ahead to let them know I was vegan) and they produced the most amazing vegan afternoon tea for me (and catered to all of the rest of the group's food requests - we had a few people that could only eat halal, some on a pregnancy diet, some with nut allergies, and so on), so they are really adept at dealing with substitutions etc.

Here's a picture of the tea I received:

There's tomato and vegan cheese sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, a mini roll-type thing with some sundried tomato,a hazelnut/choc cupcake, orange and almond cake, carrot and walnut cake, scones, margarine, and jam. And that was all provided for one!

thanks for all the info!!

we're staying pretty central, and have no problem getting around.

i emailed a few places! it seems fortnum & mason can do a vegan tea! we're going to check it out. but for the record, claridges, the dorchester, the lanesborough, and the connaught all say they can offer a vegan option (though one said, "fruit skewers and we're not able to provide cake or scone, sorry!" so that's not much of an option.

I'll report back for sure!

zebedee, that places looks wonderful. and the savoy looks lovely, too! i may have to do several teas on my short trip! haha..

Seriously. I have been to so many weddings and parties and other rubbish catered things over the last few years, with "professional chefs" doing the catering and it seems that the only vegan desserts (and usually starters too) they can ever come up with is fruit. It's ridiculous and lazy.

I was at a work conference once with another vegan and when they brought us our dessert of fruit salad after our melon starter, he stopped the waitress and
told her she'd obviously made a mistake and brought his starter again by accident.

haha awesome.

Yeah pretty much every wedding or event I've been to in the last 6 years has been melon for starter, fruit salad for dessert. It didn't used to bug me but I get crankier with age and now it just gets right on my tits.

I got a summer pudding at a conference once and nearly snogged the waitress with joy even though I'm not even that keen on it.

If you don't want fancy tea, they do great strawberry scones in Food for Thought in Covent Garden!

Oh wow, in that case, Fortnum & Mason is a must. That place is ridiculous (in a good way). I think I might have to check this out myself soon!
