Anyone else suffering from frozen mince shortage? None of our local supermarkets have it, nor did my local hfs or Holland and Barratts. Checking Infinity on Saturday.

It's so handy for bulk feeding large numbers of omni students we host over the summer (and us, when time is tight). My husband turns his nose up at tvp and bean substitutes!

I used to sneak cooked lentils into chillis and bolognese when we were out of veggie mince, and my omni ex didn't notice....

Yep I can't find any. Sainsburys, Tesco... H&B haven't had redwoods or linda mc in for ages.

I read something about it on FB recently - I think one of the manufacturers discovered salmonella in their veggie mince!! Hopefully it's a temporary absence, because TVP just isn't the same.

Ohhh yeh that's true actually, I saw that Hannah of Hannah Banana Bakery mentioned something about it on Facebook.

I found this, a statement from Tesco from June:

"Apparently, traces of salmonella were isolated during routine testing at the factory which prepared one of the ingredients for the soya mince. On a precautionary basis a voluntarily withdrawal of all soy products that were produced at the factory was implemented. It is anticipated that the product will be available as soon as the food business operators are satisfied that the product meets the required quality standards."

Apparently Morrisons are still selling mince as they use a different supplier. Not sure if that's true though.

Looks like Vbites (Redwoods renamed) have theirs in stock which you can order online.

Sorry looks like I was wrong - Morrisons are no longer selling mince either.

Oh good. I had heard Asda do a good veggie mince and now have an Asda within reach. I saw veggie mince in the frozen section but couldn't buy anything frozen that day. Then I went back to look for it and it was gone! Glad to hear it probably hasn't been discontinued.

ooh is it back. I will check next time I'm in Sainsburys. I wish the linda mc one would come back, that's my favourite!

I like the LM one for chili, but not for something like tacos or spag bol because the chunks are too big. Or at least, they were the last time I bought it, which, admittedly, was about 5 years ago. I like the Sainsbury's own brand stuff.
