If you haven't already seen it, Pizza Express are gauging interest for new ingredients - if you want to, please go to their Facebook page and add to the groundswell for vegan cheese! Thx!

Apparently there are thousands of comments asking for vegan cheese! They did trial it years ago & there are better cheeses available now so you never know!

It would be amazing - they're always really accommodating if I take in a pack for me and the girls, but the supply of decent vegan cheese round here is pretty wobbly.

Just bumping this as a colleague has booked our team into Pizza Express for a Xmas meal and I thought I'd contact them, this is their reply (took a few weeks for them to send it). Looking at the ingredient list there is one sweet that is vegan, raspberry sorbet, so with olives as a starter I should be able to assemble something for a mains. Looks like vegan scheeses are still BYO

Thank you for your enquiry into PizzaExpress.

Although we do not actually have a vegan pizza on the menu all our pizzas
are made to order and can be ordered without the items that render it
unsuitable and with your choice of toppings.

Our pizza bases are completely free of animal and dairy products. Our
famous tomato sauce is made up of tomatoes, salt, pepper, fresh basil and
oregano. Unfortunately we don't have a vegan cheese in the business but
you can leave the cheese off any pizza of your choice.

If you would like to bring in a dairy free cheese for us to use on your
pizza please ensure that this is an new unopened product, in date, with the
date clearly visible.

We would also advise you contact the restaurant in advance to avoid any
unnecessary delay to your meal.

I have attached our allergen information sheets which detail all of our
dishes and ingredients used to create our main and Christmas menu and which
are suitable for vegans.

It's interesting they will use customer-bought toppings. I wonder if they'd do me a cherry jam, marzipan and dark chocolate one if I follow the packaging rules?

I'm sure if you said it was all non dairy cheese they'd be cool with that. You certainly like your pizza toppings!

Pizza Express is remarkably vegan friendly these days - this counts for their kids menu too. There's a PDF on their website that describes how various menu items can be adapted to become vegan (e.g. doughballs with garlic oil in place of butter).

I can live without vegan cheese (I did for several years before meltable stuff existed) if the base and other toppings are good. I can highly recommend adding a few extra toppings (they'll sometimes take pity on you and not charge extra on the bill) and requesting/liberally drizzling garlic oil on their pizzas for extra flavour / delicious fat.

I always do this, so good! I've taken Daiya to Pizza Express before because it doesn't melt as well in my home oven as it will in their mega ovens but their cheeseless pizza's are still up there with some of the best I've had.

I don't know if you can get grated vegan cheese where you are but for those who can bringing it ensures the order is not delayed. (They don't allow time to grate cheese as all theirs is pre-grated, probably not much of a problem if it's just for one pizza but when we went in with several vegans our order took ages and we were told this was why.) And don't forget to bring a zip lock bag or similar to take home whatever they don't use!
