Hey you boston area folk,
Short story: A week or two ago (after 4 months of unemployment) I promised myself, that, as a reward for becoming employed, I would get a tattoo commemorating my time hiking the Appalachian Trail.
....the day has come. For I am officially, gainfully employed in a place I'm really excited to be working for. I start monday.
Which means I need to start looking for a reliable good place to get a small tattoo. I was hoping you, the ppk, would have some knowledge of a place that will do good, vegan tattoos.

Do you have Vegan Girl's Guide to Life? She reviews in there which inks are vegan, so you can ask a tattoo artist what kind of ink they use.
If I recall correctly, the inks at the last place I went (Good Faith on Comm Ave in Allston) were vegan, and the guy that tattooed me (Chris Bartlett) was amazing. Mine is relatively small, though I'm planning to add some to it soon, I hope! He's a cool guy and an excellent artist--I've seen his bigger stuff, too. I can't wait to get him to do my back, once I have the money!

Oooh! I will look into Good Faith. And I do have Vegan girl's guide to life... which is how I realized some inks aren't vegan in the first place!

My friends who are both vegan and tattoo artists themselves, just had really nice work done by Erick Lynch at Redemption Tattoo on Mass Ave in Cambridge. And congrats on the job!

My tats are from Redemption Tattoo. Josh did both of them (just because he happened to be free when I got my first one and so I requested him for the second). Mine are both quite small and only black ink. I didn't inquire as to the veganness of them... I was unaware back then.
Congrats on the job and pics once you get the tat!!

Dan from Regeneration in Allston is vegan and does great work (especially if you're interested in birds). From my experience there, the other artists have been great and will use vegan ink if you ask them.

I've been looking for a place to get some new work done and dig the recommendations that have been made so far. Some nice options up that way.

Pino Brothers in Cambridge is amazzzinnnggg!!! I don't think that all of their inks are vegan, but if you ask for a 100% vegan tat, they'll be sure to only use the veg inks. My boyfriend and most of my tattooed friends have gone there, and once I manage to scrape up the cash I'll be getting a tattoo from Pino as well.
That's all I have for positive recommendations. For negatives, stay the hell away from Stingray in Allston. One of my friends got a tattoo there. The image itself was wonky and lop-sided (she wanted a simple bicycle silhouette! How difficult is that?!?!) The tattoo was on her foot, and they didn't bother placing it above the callus line, so half of it is gone now anyways. They also messed up my boyfriend's bother's tat.

I drove all the way to Portsmouth, New Hampshire to see Stina at Tattoo Junkies. I love her work, she is vegan, uses vegan inks, and she is pretty! ;)
