im gonna pop out a baby in early May. my husband suggested we go to a nice dinner at a nice vegan restaurant sometime before that. im not gonna say no to that. however we dont have any vegan restaurants out here in the burbs, fancy or non fancy.
any suggestions?
i love Grasshopper in Allston but it's not really "fancy" he took me to Red Lentil for my birthday once so i was thinking that fit the bill pretty good.
it doesnt need to be super fancy we're just looking for a nice place to have dinner.
Worcester is closest to us but anywhere in or around Boston is fine. no Cape Cod please that's too far (does vegan anything exist on the Cape?)
it also doesnt have to be a "vegan restaurant" but obviously vegan friendly.

True Bistro is in Somerville. It's all vegan and fancy-ish. Here's their website: http://www.truebistroboston.comIf you decide to go to Red Lentil, and it's on the weekend, there's a good chance you'll meet VeganFoodRocks! The Elephant Walk is a good vegan-friendly fancy restaurant. They have locations in Boston, Cambridge and Waltham. http://www.elephantwalk.com

Everything is vegan, the atmosphere and people are super nice, and the food is delicious (and not super expensive); enjoy!

I was also going to suggest True Bistro.

We went to true bistro a couple of nights before our son was born, so I highly recommend it as a 'last date for a while' place!

True Bistro is my favorite date place! And their food is always solidly good. (Cornmeal crusted mushrooms!!!)
I second Elephant Walk. Also, if it's not too far, Garden Grille in Pawtucket, RI is really good and "datey" without being too fancy, too. (Plus there's a vegan bakery next door.)

True Bisto is the best fancy vegan place in the Greater Boston area, I'd say! I love Red Lentil, but it's not quite as "fancy" - still delicious though.
Ten Tables in Cambridge or Jamaica Plain does a 4-course vegan menu, which we did for our anniversary once - it was fun and tasty.
Not so fancy, but have you been to My Thai Vegan in Chinatown? All vegan Thai and delicious! No worrying about fish sauce and the like.
You say you like to try new cuisines...there's YoMa (Burmese food) in Allston...it's delicious, and you can always stop by FoMu after for some vegan ice cream!

is it really that good? im kind of looking at their menu and feeling underwhelmed.... I always think the small plates and salads are especially good; last time we made a dinner of the ravioli, leek tart, cornmeal mushrooms, and the wilted spinach salad. Of the current entrees I've tried, the red tofu curry is really yummy (although I preferred the green one they used to serve), and so is the sweet potato/portobello thing; I don't really care about seitan, but my partner liked the blackened version with grits. I really like the atmosphere there; the people are super nice, and you can get an actual cocktail as opposed to only beer and wine (which I understand is not a point of particular interest to you just now!). The Walnut Grille in Newton Highlands is another, newer option. We went last night and everything we tried was good: for apps we had Gobi Manchurian, these chicken drumstick things, and for entrees the polenta napoleon and a fig pizza that was my favorite. The service was kind of ropey but the place was packed; they've only been open a few weeks, and it's nice to see them doing such a good business, so I'll give it a month and go back when they've got the kinks sorted out! http://www.walnutgrille.com

We eat there a lot and the food is always awesome! (I did think the stuffed winter squash, which I had last time, was a little bland... but they had to modify it for me because of my food allergies, so that could be the reason. But that was the first and only time I wasn't IN LOVE with my meal.)

I'm super picky about eating out--the food really needs to be something I'm not capable of making myself for me to be happy. I was very happy with my experience at True Bistro.
