Hey! My hubbie and I are coming to Salem for Halloween this year kind of out of the clear blue. We just decided to make this happen. We are staying at the Beverly Garden Suites but will be in Salem all day on Halloween and the next day. Would love to have lunch or dinner with anyone who is available and will be in the area. And any advice on food and places to eat would be much appreciated! Also any advice on the attractions would be great too.

Halloween in Salem! Awesome but super crowded. I really like this coffee shop/bar they have, gulugulu I think it's called. They have good food.

We figured as much. So far we are planning to get into Salem early around 11am and park our car. And then hit up a bunch of attractions before it gets dark out.

I think we are going to do breakfast at the Organic Garden Cafe in Beverly. Thinking Life Alive for lunch once we are in Salem. I will def check out Gulu Gulu, thanks!

Salem around Halloween is super fun, even though it is always packed. I go with my friend almost every year, and we've gone to the witch trial museums, some of the haunted houses, and taken a "ghost tour" at night. If you ever read The House of the Seven Gables in school, the house it was based on is there and you can tour it. The shops are also cool to browse in. It's all fun, but pricey. I always check out the "Haunted Happenings" site before I go to see what's going on that day. You might want to stop at an atm, because some attractions are cash-only (I made the mistake of going without cash once, thinking, "Oh, I'm sure every place takes debit!" Nope.)

What is there for vegan food in Salem? I'm going this Sunday so I watched the Vegan Zombie video from his trip to Salem but apparently the place he ate at is closed now. I'll be with a bunch of meat eaters so I'm hoping this won't be a sad salad or french fry day.

Life Alive seems to be the best vegan option. But I think theres a hot dog place that has veggie dogs and a pub with a veggie burger.

Do you happen to know the names of the other two places?

Thanks!

And blah, this review was totally unhelpful:
"I've been tempted to enter, but thus far have simply passed. Something about the name and the image? Strange. The Old Spot. I was raised with PETA, so this obviously influences how I feel about the images and the contents of various restaurants. I give The Old Spot 1-Star for adding one vegetarian-friendly item per menu category - such as the Crispy Fried Green Beans with Horseradish Creme Fraiche under the Appetizer heading; the Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burger Red Pepper Relish, Cheddar LTO, Fries in the Sandwiches section; and the Grilled Portobellos in the Entrees section. This is a slight attempt to cater to vegans and vegetarians, but the sign on the business, coupled with the name, will undoubtedly keep most vegan/vegetarians away. We can get similar vegetarian/salad options at Tavern on the Green. Sounds, at least, a bit more inviting."

TL;DR: "I'm reviewing a place I've never been to and don't like their name, logo and the fact that they sell meat. Therefore, 1 star."

TL; DR II: "Because PETA."
