we're going to mohegan sun in uncasville (grandpa-in-law's b-day), and it looks like the closest place is mangetout in new london. (10 miles away) but their hours are 11am to 4pm (so we probably would need a secondary place to eat outside of those hours.)

so-far it looks like that might have to be castle pizza for their mediterranean fare.
Mon. - Fri. 10:30am-9pm
Sat. 10:30am-10pm
Sun. 11am-9pm

we'll probably be coming up 95, so suggestions for new haven or another place along the way would be appreciated too. thanks!

looks like groupon has a $15 for $30 / $30 for $60 deal at fire and spice in hartford. (is that worth a 100 mile round trip? i'm thinking no?)

oh! but if we take CT15 instead of 95, it's only 20 miles/15 minutes out of the way. according to google in mid-day weekday traffic. hmmmmmm.

Mangetout's good, but pretty casual. For something open a little later, there are a couple of pizza places - Pizzetta in Mystic and and Two Wives in New London (the former is very good, the latter I never got a chance to try) - that have vegan options.

aah! thanks for the thread! nothing popped up for my norwich search. i'll go read it now. :-)

it seems so weird that a place with such a fancy name is casual. (and that's fine. it'd probably be me and mr. carrot breaking away to get some grub from time to time. i didn't ask if the whole family was going to be eating together. which now that you mention it, they probably will be. but maybe in the casinos?)

It has a lot of fancy-cutesy bistro-ish decor and a quiet atmosphere that I felt terrible taking an infant to, but at the same time the menu is mostly wraps and lunch-y things. I didn't quite know what to make of it, though the food was tasty enough.

ok. inside the casino (gosh, it's huge!), the bobby's burger palace has fries that are only fried along with the onion rings. (or maybe the onion rings are fried in another separate fryer? i don't even know if the batter has dairy. i didn't ask.)

margaritaville has hummus and pita (you can ask the pita to not be grilled, otherwise it's used on the same panini press as the cheese stuff) it seemed like the tortilla chips were fried there, but i feel okay, so maybe they weren't? the portobella is grilled on the same surface, and the veggie burger had milk in it.

i went into lush just as a what the heck kind of thing, and the cashier was vegan, so she also told us about the ballo italian restaurant that is really friendly, and are happy to make something off-menu.

p.s. the brew pub is not a microbrewery. FYI. they just have a dozen or so mainstream brands.

the best games for me were plants vs zombies, monopoly and to a lesser extent, cheers (but i lost it and my original $20 by the end of the night. not bad for 7 hours of entertainment. could have been worse.)
