Hi! Seeking a recommendation for "fancy" spot with a vegan option (or two, or three).

Looking for both non-vegan and veg spots, ideally.

Bonus points for:
> nice cocktails & wine offerings
> downtown Boston or fairly green or orange line central

In particular, I'd like to meet an old (non-veg) friend for dinner and not have to do the make-sure-it's-vegan song and dance while ordering, or dragging her to a veg spot and having to hear about it.

I'm eyeing Elephant Walk, but I'd like to hear other recs outside of Asian cuisines (which are my faves, and I adore Khmer, but I'm wary of being a broken record talking about Asian food and travels).

And for selfish, delicious reasons, tell me about any "fancy" all-veg spots? : )

I'd say True Bistro in Somerville is your place.

http://www.truebistroboston.com

Walnut Grille in Newton is nice, too, but it's vegetarian/vegan and relies a little more heavily on fake meat and cheese products than I personally care for in a "fancy" restaurant.

I second True Bistro and like it better than Walnut Grille.

I don't know if it's anywhere near where anyone is asking but I really like Five Horses Tavern in Davis sq. It has vegan and non-vegan food, is not too dive-y and has a large alcohol selection.

Thank you!

In related news, I am pumped to head out to Somerville and try Taco Party and the bakery/donut-maker that's based out of the spot ! http://www.tacopartytruck.com/ (especially because I spent a fun, first-paying-my-own-rent summer living in Davis Square, way back when).

I just saw this--am I too late?

Figs and Picco are both great! Disclaimer: I haven't been to Figs in years.

Figs is a little fancier, but Picco has the added advantage of being willing to make their food vegan friendlier (I once asked for no cheese on a salad and the server immediately asked if I wanted to substitute sautéed chickpeas so I could still have some protein). Plus their sorbets are vegan--and the dark chocolate sorbet is hands down my favorite ice cream since I went vegan.

You've probably already been here and left by now but if you haven't, while you're in Davis sq I recommend you also check out Eat At Jumbo's.

Sacco Bowl in Davis makes a great vegan flatbread pizza!

Super faves: gosh, prob Taco Party, Wholeheart Provisions and Amsterdam Falafel (because, falafe)
Tiger Mama: we ordered nearly everything you can get veganized, and I have our menu with vegan notes on it from the BOH somewhere I'll post here at some point... Spendy, but our waiter recommended we order 2-4 dishes per person, and with Jules and I splitting 4 or 5 plus rice, we couldn't finish.

Ha! I wasabout to ask in the other thread how the options were there.

For future reference if other people check this thread, Sarma has many already-vegan things and are really good about veganizing recipes, but i didn't recommend them here before because you usually have to make reservations way in advance.

I know your trip is over, but for anyone looking in the future: we did early Valentine's Day at The Chocolate Bar at the Langham. (It's a spendy dessert buffet). They had a vegan table with 6 or 7 items all well marked and some other miscellaneous items here and there like cotton candy. I took pictures that I will post eventually.

I'm slacking on my photo posting, but I really will get around to it eventually. I was kind of surprised that vegans were decently accommodated because there is nothing on the Langham's website to suggest that the buffet is at-all vegan friendly. Compared to the huge amount of non-vegan stuff, the vegan selection is arguably paultry. But I prefer to just be happy that the option to go out for a fancy dessert buffet and have choices exists.

FYI, I didn't do anything to notify the Langham that I had special dietary needs, so they apparently just always have a special vegan table.
