Yesss, thanks for the heads up! There's also one for Kickass Cupcakes.

I got the true bistro one. Are the vegan cupcakes at KC ever good? I didn't like the 2 I've tried. Blue Shirt Cafe used to have (and maybe still does) mini vegan cupcakes for $1 each that were super good.

So there's a new restaurant going in Peace O' Pie's old location: https://www.facebook.com/rootboston Anyone heard of this? They said on their fb page that their menu will be 100% vegan (although they are advertising it as "plant-based" or "plant-inspired", or some shiitake like that.) Their website isn't up yet, but they have pics of some of their food on their fb page.

I saw something about this in the Improper Bostonian, looks like it's opening July 9th. I find it mildly annoying that they're bending over backwards to avoid calling themselves vegan, but I'm still excited to check it out.

They're open, and their website is up (with menus): http://www.rootboston.com

I will pay $1 million for hushpuppies. Ok, not really. But I'm stoked.

Somebody go get brunch and tell me how it is so I can live vicariously through you! (I never get to Allston, and I don't even live that far away.)

It was delicious! Our server was a little frazzled and they got an order confused, but for their very first brunch I can't complain. Waffles, pancakes, tofu scramble, and hashbrowns were all well-received but the hush puppies were definitely the group favorite!

Pretty reasonable.. I think the waffles and pancakes were $8, hush puppies were $5 (for 6 of them), hashbrown side was $3, can't remember the others.

Tofu scramble plate was $10, and it was pretty awesome. The home fries were excellent and tofu scramble pretty good (could have used a dash of black salt). The biscuit was take it or leave it, and there were no biscuits and gravy.

That being said, the hush puppies!!!! I also really need to try the Allston crème pancakes. With the heat and biking back I didn't get them, but I really think I should have. I mean, it's not like I didn't come back and take a nap anyway.

Also, when did the Trader Joe's in Coolidge Corner start selling hard liquor?! I don't even drink hard liquor, but I like it being there.

I ate at Root this weekend, and it was good. My only issue is that it seems like on the lunch/dinner menu too many of the dishes are just veggies and not much proteiny stuff. I had the LA wrap and that had hummus and a lot of tasty veggies, and the person I was with had the burger which was super, super tasty. Other than that though it seems like all the sandwiches and salads are basically just veggies and some black beans, I'd like to see more tofu and tempeh and stuff. I know they have a tofu wrap on the brunch menu, it just seems a bit odd that the regular menu doesn't have that. I feel like the stuff isn't super filling though the portions are pretty decent.
