A friend just re-upped his lease in Boston, and the landlord suddenly decided he wants the building to be no-pets from now on. My friend says he is therefore considering bringing his cat to a shelter. I am upset about this and hoping to help him find a home instead of having to subject the cat to a shelter where she may be put down. The cat's name is Erin, she is sweet but quite shy, an orange tabby. She’s about 7, vaccinations all up to date, she’s been an indoor cat her whole life but was with her mother and other cats for her first few months, so she may be adaptable to other animals, but I just don't know.

Feel free to PM me or post here if you or anyone you know might want to adopt her. My friend could drive her out to someone outside Boston.

I may know someone who can take her in. I'll ask and.

No, nothing yet! Luckily my friend talked to the landlord and they are letting him keep her at least until he finds a suitable home- so definitely no shelters for her. So I am still keeping my eyes and ears open, if anyone has any leads. Thanks for checking in!

In NYC it would be illegal to do that. Even in a no pet building if you have the pet 30 days without hiding it. If a building goes no pet all existing pets are grandfathered in, including when you renew your lease. I have no idea what the law is there but it's something you might want to look into.

I wondered about that too- the thing is I think he managed to get his new lease on a month to month basis which is an advantage to him since he may be looking for a new place and doesn't want to be tied down, so that may affect it. As it stands though it sounds like they are now saying he can have the summer at least to find her a new home, so I guess they are being decent. His studio is very small so I think she is unhappy there anyway, being very cooped up, so I would love to find her a better situation.
