i would love to meet new england ppkers! i'm pretty sure the weekend of june 25th would work for me and my partner and two sweet vegan dogs. is your dog other-dog-friendly, veganfoodrocks?
i'm not sure we could make the trek all the way up to northern maine since we could only come friday night through sunday, so a more central new england location would be awesome! we also have tons of camping equipment if anyone is new to camping and needs to borrow stuff.

Gizmo will love them! She is super playful and loves all dogs, especially ones bigger than her. New Haven to Acadia is a super long ride and if we end up there and you can't make it, we should totally do another camping trip! I want to camp as often as possible this summer, especially if it involves vegans. PPK vegans no less.

I agree with the more central location! Also with the swimming. When I think about out PPKamping trip, I get all excited. Whoo! (And I don't generally get excited about camping.)

Acadia is five hours from where I am. I can't see driving ten hours over the course of two days, especially because I may only be able to come for a day or two (meaning, a day, a night, a day).
That's my input on Acadia, much as I love Acadia and would LOVE to be there. But of course, I'm just one person, so I'll decide whether I go or not depending where you all decide to have it. Can't please everyone, I know. :)

Just looking at a map, White Mountain National Forest is mid/northern New Hampshire, which looks like a reasonable commute for most of us (though CT and RI people might not agree?). The advantage to that park is that it's huge and looks like it has lots of camping areas. I think. National part websites are confusing.
ETA: Actually, that looks about as far north as the Portland area. Back to the drawing board... (ie, google maps)

irreverent wrote: I would love to be in on this! So looking forward to meeting New England vegans :D If we are looking for a more central location, may I humbly submit Bear Brook State Park or one of the others here in NH? I'll go wherever, but this is just a suggestion! I just looked at Bear Brook State Park at irreverent's suggestion, and it looks like there are plenty available that weekend. Does anyone know anything about this park? Good/bad? ALSO, Pawtuckaway State Park (near Bear Brook) has campgrounds available that weekend.

I'm really confused by their pet policy. I read in one place that they are allowed only at sites and on trails, but then I read in another section that they are only allowed at the campground. Are they not allowed at the water?

bear brook state park looks really nice! i agree that the dog policy is a little unclear, but i get the feeling dogs aren't allowed in the swimming areas. that would suck because my dogs really need to cool off when they're hot. i would still go there though, we could make it work!

Im not worried about Gizmo swimming, she hates water, but we could probably find some ponds or something out in the trails for your pups

did we figure out an area? I'm willing to research a bunch of campgrounds and call them about rates/pets if we have a location locked down!
also, does anyone want to share a tent with me? I apparently lent mine to my cousin who is now backpacking on the Appalachian trail, which is cool but leaves me tent-less.

I totally forgot to call the places we already posted about in this thread =/ Gizmo and I would be more than happy to share a tent!

Not to be awkward, but I just got one of my tents back from my brother after he borrowed it to share w/his girlfriend on the Appalachian Trail (he's thru-hiking, she joined him for a week). How crazy is it we both have relatives hiking the Appalachian Trail?

Is this happening? I was unclear whether people liked the idea of one of the NH state parks because of the pet policies... should we just scrap it for this month and think about other dates?

So, this wouldn't be a specific PPK event, as I'm inviting friends from other areas too, but my family has a house in NH just below White Mountain National Forest. There're some Four thousand footers nearby, a neat river to swim in as well as a pond and a lake (we have boats, if we can figure out how to get them to the water). There's a small movie theater/shopping/touristy area about half an hour away. You could tent on the front lawnish area if you really want to camp. It's pretty awesome (if small) and I'd love it if PPKers wanted to come hang out. Weekend after July 4th (8-10th??). PM for more details!

What does everyone think of that park/lake/campsite?

okay, wow, sorry guys I totally dropped the ball on this, and seeing as it is this weekend and we haven't got anywhere picked out, how do you guys feel about pushing it back? like, maybe in to july or even august?
lend me your thoughts. also, where in NH were you thinking vegetalion? which state park? NH seems nice to me.
p.s. Portland as a meetup should happen. pls.

But I don't want you guys to think I'm really attached to them; I just looked at a map and found the most centrally-located New England parks where there were camping. July and/or August would be fine, as long as I had enough time to plan for it. And boober, my boyfriend's sister keeps going up to Portland for work, and every time she mentions it I think of you!

If it's pushed off until August there's a much better chance I can make it with my hubby and dog, this summer and school has been so crazy and it's barely started!

Bear Brook looks pretty. I am pro- Bear Brook. plus I like it's name. thoughts or feelings on Bear Brook? They are pet friendly, but not on the beaches.
Also, we should figure out how many people are actually going to be going so we know how many sites we need, or if we need a group site.
note: if we make it after july 30 I will once again have my own tent. That's kind of late in the summer though so I don't know how people feel.
once we figure out the date (2.0), I suggest that people PM me if they are coming so I can figure out numbers, good plan?
Sorry I failed so badly on this!
