Bring a couple of your favorite vegan cookbooks and bring your digital camera. We can pass around & browse the cookbooks and "photocopy" (with the cameras) any recipes that we want to try :-) Awesome idea! I will definitely remember my camera this time!

Hey all! Just a reminder that our next PPK Potluck is one week from tomorrow!
We'll be meeting on Saturday, April 6th at 2:30pm at my place in Oak Park - very close to the Harlem Green Line stop and also near a $1/hr parking garage. If you need my address, just let me know and I'll send you a private message with it.
Bring your favorite vegan cookbooks & a camera. We can browse cookbooks and "photo"-copy (with our cameras) any recipes we'd like to try!
And the theme is Global Feast. So far, the following regions are taken: Hector - Middle East Jeni - South America Nissa - French Diana - Africa Mike - Thai Megan - Russia/Eastern Europe
For anyone else that would like to join, ideas include: Indian Japanese / Korean / or Chinese Greek / Mediterreanean etc
I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and to trying all of the delicious food, of course!

Are we set for dinner at Karyn's on Green next Saturday to celebrate Jeni's birthday? What time works for everyone?

Mike has another birthday to attend (which I will be meeting him at afterwards) so it will be just me for dinner.

Reservations are all set! If anyone else plans on coming, let me know and I'll change the reservation. I have Nissa, Diana, Hector & myself for dinner at 6 PM for Karyn's on Green.
I am really looking forward to it! :)

Hey All!
I had a great time at the Cinco De Mayo Potluck and will be posting a recap soon. I just wanted to let you all know that I'm starting a new thread for our June Potluck Meetup (with a RAW theme!) in case you want to subscribe to that thread.
Hope to see you there! -Diana

Hey everyone! At the last potluck we had mentioned doing a vegan food crawl and I think this is a great idea. I might be partial but I think my neighborhood, Lakeview, would work out great. There are lots of options and we can walk to them!
Do we want to do this on a weeknight or weekend? The end of June or the week after July 4th will work best more me. What works best for everyone?
So far, I come up with: kitchen 17 - which is a must go to if you haven't been there!! It's amazing! Native Foods- I think everyone loves Native Foods! Chicago Diner Pick Me Up Cafe Dimo's Pizza
Any other suggestions?! I think with planning it'll be a success!!! :)

Thanks so much for working to make this happen, Jeni! I agree, Lakeview would be a great neighborhood for it. If we can find a date that works, I think a weekend would be the best since that much eating needs to be spread out over a few hours, but I could do a week night too if we can't find a weekend date. As of now, Sunday June 30th looks like a good date for me or July 6th or 7th if people will be in town around 4th of July. I definitely want to try Dimo's Pizza and Kitchen 17. Chicago Diner can be croweded sometimes, so Shakes to go might be a great option there! Pick Me Up's best item (in my opinion) is their buffalo tofu salad. Also, I just did a quick google search and found this place, though I've never heard of it before and have no idea if we'd like it!: http://www.yelp.com/biz/vegetarian-express-chicago

I am happy to put this event together! How many places total did we want to go to? June 30th sounds great!
I have been to Vegetarian Express quite a few times, but not recently. The food is just ok and I think there are better places to go to but if anyone wants to check it out, we can make it one of our stops!!
This is so exciting!!

This sounds great. I think Lakeview is the perfect choice, and late June/early July works for me, too. Except for one tiny thing...June 30th is Pride. So Lakeview may not be the easiest to navigate on that particular day.

Ooh - good catch on Pride. I agree that would be tricky to navigate. Does the following weekend work for everyone?
I'm fine skipping Vegetarian Express since Jeni has already done the leg work for us :-)
I think there are two common ways we could do this:
Option 1: We could pick a particular menu item or two for each place (that they are best known for) and split it multiple ways - i.e. one milkshake and multiple cups. We could hit up more places this way (stomach-wise), but we'd be trying just a small portion of each place's menu. If we do this, we could probably hit all the places on your list. If we do this, I think we should especially try to go at non-peak times (like late lunch/early dinner) so we don't drive the restaurant's crazy by taking up a table for a small order.
Option 2: We pick less places but eat more - if we did 3 places we could do one place for starters, one for entrees, and one for dessert and everyone could order whatever they'd like at each. We'd be tryiing less places, but possibly more items.
What do you all prefer? Any ideas I missed?
Maybe we can plan out the details at our potluck this weekend. I still need to figure out what I'm making!
