So my boyfriend and I may make a big move after I receive my Master's. We currently live in DC and want to move somewhere fairly big and where we can both find work as teachers. I'm vegan and he's vegetarian. I just need general thoughts on why someone should or should not move to Chicago to help us guide our research. We're also asking friends who currently live there but I need lots of input.

The Chicago city schools require that teachers live within city limits. That may or may not be important, but it can limit flexibility.

I love Lake Michigan. Was not a huge fan of Hyde Park when I lived there, but loved the walk to the Point.

You are rocking it out with the teaching advice and it's really helping me feel less anxious. Our goal is definitely to live within the city proper. I'm almost starting to get excited about something that may happen sort of soon.

I am new to Chicago, and I really love it. It's a big city, but it's grid layout makes it easy to navigate. It's really, really easy to be veg here. The cost of living is fairly reasonable for a big city...I couldn't rent a bedroom in New York for what my entire apartment costs here. The neighborhoods have distinct "feels" and so I think it's a place a lot of different people can feel comfortable.

Cycling is great there. Flat roads and bike lanes!
