I've never been so I don't really have an opinion, but what sounded odd to me was the cleaning part. Cleaning is good, don't get me wrong, and sure about the truthfulness, but I've heard rumors about the cleanliness of the place before.

A friend says it was bought out, so maybe they were convinced to keep the name and format instead of starting a new restaurant?

Oh, look, the ENTIRE forking menu is different. Every single dish that made Earwax Earwax is missing. I am NOT happy.

delicious cafe in north center! so good! the owner is vegan, they do offer dairy milk but otherwise are all vegan and they have lots of nondairy milk options and some light foods. it's totally cute and close to the brown line or the irving park bus.

Hmmmm...Very fishy! And, is it just me or does the menu seems a little less vegan-y than it was before.

So I just heard through the grapevine that Native Foods is opening up "late this summer" in that old BK on Milwaukee in Wicker Park. This makes me SO happy, Native Foods was my favorite restaurant in LA. Who needs Earwax?

I've never been to Earwax, but was the menu all vegan before? Because, if so, the new menu if WAY different. Bacon, duck confit, eggs...

Thanks for all the suggestions! We ate our way around Chicago the past four days :) I think we gained 5 pounds, even with all the walking!

I love Pick Me Up. Way better than the Diner, actually, though i seem to be a lone dissenting vegan here.

Pick Me Up has peanut butter and jelly milkshakes. They are amazing!

I think I have more affection for PMU just because I've been there so so so many more times. Both are awesome. It's been a really long time for either since I moved out of the hood.

I'm hoping to make a diner trip this weekend, after at least a 7 mile run in celebration of the 50 degree forecast...I think that trip will call for a shake and fries!

I feel like I'm getting bored of all my eating options in Chicago...Especially having mostly omni friends. Do you all have good "please everyone" places with something vegan on the menu that you love?! Bonus points for full bars.

I need to try this. And guess what?! The Diner is currently donating $1 from each shamrock shake sale (and from their special burger which has bacon & fried onions on it) to Japan relief efforts.

Here are some places off the top of my head that have a few vegan options...
Revolution Brewing Co - they brew their own beer and they've got a few vegan options on the menu (vegetarian options are marked--but you can get the tempeh reuben without cheese, an entree that sounded really good, and a few other things...)

Brand BBQ - I haven't been yet but it's been recommended to me! I don't think they have alcohol, though. http://www.brandbbqmarket.com/menu_vegetarian.html

Boiler Room - vegan pizza! and good beer and cocktails.. open late.

Lula - for brunch (tofu scramble).

those are all in Logan Square for some reason or another...

in Wicker Park, I like Rodan on weeknights when there are specials and not huge crowds. It's a bar with good beer and cocktails and small plates (a lot of fish on the menu now but still some vegan options)

Yes. All the time, although I haven't tried the vegan donuts yet. They have some decent pu-erh tea on top of the excellent coffee
