A little on the pricey side for me, but I could eat those Chile Rellenos and quinoa until I explode. I'm so psyched to have vegan Mexican that isn't just burritos, tacos and chips...Not that I have any problem with burritos, tacos and chips :) If you haven't been yet, go soon! I was looking at the menu and didn't really notice anything vegan. Did I miss something? eta: Haha - yep, I missed a whole vegan menu! We went and really liked it. The only thing, we were expecting that entire vegan menu, but I guess they only offer 1 item as a special from the vegan menu...must be rotating. What we had was really good, just was expecting choices. Oh, bummer. So, really, just one thing? Hm.

I don't really know why the vegan items aren't on the regular menu, that is kind of disappointing. I went a few days ago, and it was quite good. The chiles rellenos are indeed fantastic.

AutumnVegan, I'm going to that cookoff. Just watching, not competing, but it sounds like fun! I'd be down to meet up at one of the new vegan spots too.
Also, I met you briefly at Vegan Mania, so hi! I liked your presentation :)

Really? When I went I had the whole menu available. I ordered for pick-up though, and it was only about a week after their debut of the vegan menu. ETA: now I read the 2nd page. Nevermind.

Hi all!
I just moved here a little over a month ago, and I was wondering what vegan places you could recommend? I'm not exactly savvy as to where the vegan culture is taking place yet. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was just in Chicago yesterday and ate at Karyn's Cooked - so yummy and incredibly filling. I had the fried broccoli/cauliflower, french fries, grande taco salad, and tiramisu. Mmmm... I also LOVE the barbecue sauce they had (though my mom didn't like it much). I think I can live on that and fried vegetables right now.

Jealous! I should talk to to the bulk guys at my store (Lincoln Park) about doing the same.

Is anyone up for a meetup this Sunday the 24th? I'm going to be in town the whole weekend, and the day before for the vegan chef showdown! All I have on the agenda Sunday so far is stopping by Bake and Destroy's bake sale to see Natalie, but the rest of the day is free!

Shoot. I'll be out of town. Have fun, though!
I went to ask one of the bulk guys about VWG, and he said he'd just pit it in the bin! So if anyone's at the Lincoln Park Whole Foods, check out our awesome bulk department. Also, the quality of the vegan stuff on the prep foods bars has gotten a lot better lately. Not so much the hot bar, but it's too hot for that shiitake anyway. Oh! I found out lately that the author of Veganopolis works in our kitchen. His name is David. He's a pretty nice guy.

Sweet! Pulaski Park Fieldhouse is superclose to my apartment. It's a crazy place with a bajillion rooms. Renegade's winter craft fair was there last year.

Chicago VeganMania was at that fieldhouse last year! Louzilla, Isa, and I decided it's PPK IRL because all the rooms correspond to the forums here. There was a foyer with a whole bunch of tables and stuff going on, a kitchen for the food demo-ers to prepare, a playground/kids' area, people had dogs outside in the yard, the lecture hall was the parlor, food porn everywhere and during the demos, an exhibitor hall for the closet/punksbay, and the outside area/square is actually in the shape of a square.
WE'RE SO CLEVER.

That was six hours ago and am still way too stuffed, but its not every day you get a free 60 dollar tab at an all vegan restaurant, you know? For 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and 2 soft drinks, that price seems fairly reasonable. It was my first time in a native foods and was eager to try it all. We had the nachos and the chicken wings as appetizers, the Morroccan bowl with tofu and the gyro bowl as entrees, and two desserts. It was really enjoyable, and did I mention free? Its hard to argue with free vegan dining. I meant to get a glass of wine, but I panicked at the counter. For some reason, my brain couldn't wrap itself around the whole free wine in addition to everything else thing. I think I saw that on wednesdays they have half price appetizers as well. Recommended !
