Check out http://stemartaen.com/ to learn more about these folks, and make sure to follow them on twitter @stemartaen for constant location updates! Recently they've been targeting university campuses and downtown, but they've been branching out to Wicker Park, Boystown, and (hopefully tonight!!!) Wrigleyville. They've got their own food offerings, but they've also teamed up with SoulVeg and now have even MORE stuff. We should try to patronize these guys and help keep 'em going! Oh! That's awesome. There's a lot of food truck talk around the city these days. I'm glad to see someone is looking out for us vegans.

Someone in the Food Porn forum just posted a pic of some falafel. Now I'm craving Sultan's. I would eat there every day. Best falafel ever. I caught a cold over the weekend and I want some lentil soup sososo bad. Wish I had the recipe so I could make it all the time. I've never had anything from there that wasn't absolutely stellar.

Does anyone want to have a Thanksgiving Potluck? I'm only going for post-dinner drinks at an omni one because the food stuff was stressing me out, but then it made me sad because I never get to have Thanksgiving unless I go to my mothers in North Carolina, which I've only done once since moving to Chicago 5 years ago.
I know it's short notice, but anyone? Maybe next weekend? I'm gonna be bumpin' this thread like nuts in the hopes of replies, by the way.

Is there a place to grab some donuts? I'm heading up to Chicago right after Thanksgiving and am crossing my fingers that I find some donuts? Also, We're planning to stop into the Chicago Diner (dinner and brunch), but if you had to pick between Handlebar and Pick Me Up Cafe who would you pick?

Donuts are at Fritz Pastry, but you generally have to get there before noon because they sell out quickly - or you could pre order some from their website. I'd second Handlebar unless you are looking for vegan french toast. Handlebar has some too but PMU's is better.

Get there in the morning. It's the only place I know of right now that has them. I may be in the minority on this one, but I'd choose Pick Me Up over Handlebar. If you're curious, I've blogged twice about PMU, and there's a few pics as well. I've been to Handlebar a couple times and think it's ok, but my heart belongs to Pick Me Up. ETA: Whoops, I must have been typing when ifer posted that. Sorry for the same info twice!

I'd choose handlebar. Although pmu has way more vegan desserts.
Thanksgiving? I'd like to, I'm kinda busy next weekend, I'm getting my hair did and it's my dads b'day. Maybe we can finagle something?

I don't know about desserts. Go to karyns on green, to be on the safe side. They are both fantastic. The last time I was at mana they were serving a lavender creme brulee for dessert. Smelled delicious.

**Random Update** Just want everyone to know that New York Deli in Lakeview has decided to permanently keep their Vegan Chik'n Parmesan Sandwich on the menu! They added it for Chicago Vegan Week and unlike Ian's (I wish they kept theirs!), they are keeping their vegan special on the menu! So if you find yourself in Lakeview, make sure to check them out, I had the sandwich and it's really good. Oh, and they deliver, too! http://cupcakesandquinoa.blogspot.com/2 ... -week.html

Went to Earwax for brunch today. I forgot how awesome their jerk seitan sandwich is. I think I'll be recreating it at some point. Mmmmmm.

I haven't been to PMU yet, but my experiences (twice) at Handlebar were just ok, too. I know everyone loves it there, and I wanted to love it, too, but I wasn't wowed by my experiences and my food was just ok. My brother and his girlfriend love it, though, and I tried one other person's food (the others had cheese) and it was good. One of the appetizers was amazing (it's been a while, forgive my bad memory) and it was a cute place, though. Just wanted to say you're not alone, Bunz. I want to try Earwax, too. I dislike the city but I'm missing out on some good restaurants! I always just default to Chicago Diner because I rarely make it to the city, know what to expect, and know it will be good.

I'll be in town this week (beginning tomorrow night) We'll have to see how long we're planning on staying, as my fiancé has tentative plans for leaving Friday night or Saturday morning. ETA: I got a Groupon for Bleeding Heart Bakery, and I imagine I'll be getting far too much for us to eat. So that's a good incentive to arrange a meeting, right? I'll share baked goods.

I'm not sure if I've decided on a favorite Chicago vegan-friendly restaurant yet. My usual favorites are the Chicago Diner, Pick Me Up, and various Indian and Thai places by my house. I believe I've only been to Earwax once or twice, and I only got a falafel sandwich, so it didn't blow my mind or anything. Actually, I take back not having a favorite vegetarian Chicago restaurant. It was the Lakeside Cafe (RIP), way up north on Howard. They had the best goshdarn vegan dogs I've ever tasted, and they also had vegan baked goods regularly. I miss it!
Have any of you ever been to the Middle East Bakery & Pastry on Foster and Clark? I could have sworn their spinach pies/fatayer and vegetable flatbread were vegan (not to mention incredibly cheap), along with MANY other goodies. Oh man, they even have this honey-less baklava assortment that's to die for. It's also incredibly sweet, if you're alright with that.
I'm hoping on catching the Ste Martaen food truck this week while I'm back in the city for break! I'm also going to venture to other places in the city, including Molly's for vegan cupcakes and Earwax for a sammich or something. I'll make sure to gather pictures of everything and post the porn later.
Can anyone give me recommendations for Chicago-area restaurants? I'm on the North Side, but I also venture out to the suburbs to visit my pops. I know one place I've been meaning to check out is Soul Vegetarian. It's just sooooooo out of the way.
