So it's winter, which means, if you're in the Midwest, no fresh local produce, no sun and an endless vista of snow/ice/rain/mud/some combination of the above. Add all this to the general perception most people have of the Midwest and you have a lot to be potentially bummed about.

I say- no more! Sure, our small towns may not have the best vegan restaurants, and our neighbors may not know tempeh from tofu, but there are things about the Midwest that are positively lovely as well.

Things I love about the Midwest.
-variation in the weather; say what you will, at least it's never boring
-no good restaurants in my hometown (Munice represent!) meant I learned to cook early
-unfamiliarity with vegan/vegetarian food + general culture of friendliness and good manners = fun people to introduce to said food.
-Three words: Amish. Apple. Butter.
-Weird flea markets with great junk.

Whether your here by choice or circumstance, what's something you love about the Midwest? Anything- food related or not- let's get some positive vibes going and give the region some love (God knows it could use it after the recent snowpocalypse)

Born in Illinois, raised in Indiana and settled in Ohio) this region is where I feel most at home

Cheap cost of living! Whenever people who live in more expensive areas talk about buying a house and the price, I damn near faint. In the midwest, you can get a starter home that isn't a piece of crepe for under 100k.

I think farmland in the summer is really pretty. Lots of tress, creeks, fields of corn...on the flip side of that, I get bummed out when the corn has all been harvested.

I'm also into the weird flea markets and dirt malls and all of that good stuff. The antique mall close to my house closed after I went there once, there was a dog losing its hair and a grumpy cat and a bird, and they sold a bunch of local jams and pickled items. It was the shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
