St. Louis has a surprisingly large vegetarian community, and is actually not a bad place to be veggie. I have not seen any of you guys here though. So I'm throwing out the Arch Signal; are there any St. Louis area people out there?

I live in IL, but I'm only about an hour from St Louis. We were just there last weekend and had lunch at VegaDeli. They are opening a second location and are apparently planning a few "pre-opening" events in the nearish future.

This was an email reply Re: opening... Construction should be completed by end of Feb. We are aiming for a 1st day of Spring go live date. We'll likely host a few social events prior to grand opening (cooking classes, neighborhood welcoming socials, etc.). We're excited and we're excited that people like you are interested in this development. Thanks again for reaching out. VegaDeli http://www.vegadeli.com

I did an informal survey of the area veggies, and Meskerem came out on top. Here is a write up of it: http://stlveg.blogspot.com/2010/08/best ... in-st.htmlMy favorite place in the whole city is Thai Country Cafe on the Delmar loops. It's phenomenal. The spring rolls are vegan. I suggest the vermicelli noodles with Thai chili paste and veggies and tofu.

I am pretty sure I ate here about 7 years ago before a show at The Pageant, had this exact meal and I STILL think about it!! The spring rolls were to die for. Thanks for all the tips!

I've probably spent way too many dollars there but just can't help myself. I was heartbroken when they shut down for awhile for renovations and such. Soooo good. There were a couple other St. Louis/KC/Midwest threads going on here too. Sweet Art is superb. Foundations Grounds has vegan baked goodies to go with your coffee/tea and are right on the same street as Bottleworks. I had vegan pizza last time I was there (Bottleworks) and it was perfectly gobbleable. So many good places to eat vegan in St. Louis really. Just depends which sorts of foods you're looking for.

Hiya! STL born and raised, moved back a year ago. I fully support an STL veg meetup! And let's do it soon! My friends are boring me.
Some of my fav places to get veggie treats...Pho Grand, Basil Spice Thai, MoKaBe's, and Local Harvest! Mmmm Local Harvest has the best vegan chili. Just started drooling. Good stuff at Foundation Grounds, too, which is a block from Shlafly's. They have vegan scones (that I can't eat, I'm GF) that my dad loves.

I'd be up for a PPK St. Louis meet-up. Not down for vegadeli, but would be interested in just about anything else.

I'm in West County. I have to drive to U City or South City to gain access to a lot of options... but there are a few Indian restaurants out here that have a lot of vegan options. Saffron is really good. Does anyone know of a Mexican restaurant with a lot of veggie options? I've been scanning menus on line, and all I seem to find are 1 or 2 choices, the 1 being some sort of "vegetarian" thing with cheese, and the other one sounding incredibly not to my taste.

Hey there st louis,
two friends and I are taking a joint birthday trip to your city the first weekend of march. Mostly we are excited to go to the city museum. Any other awesome suggestions for things to do while we're there? (we are taking the bus, won't have a car.)
also, if anyone has suggestions for cheap, easily accessible hostels, or perhaps any extra floor space for three mild-mannered vegan/vegetarians for march 5th and 6th, that would be wonderful!

I have some friends coming to see me off before I leave the states. We'll be spending 4 or 5 days in St Louis, besides the ones mentioned above, are there any good places to eat? (I noticed Pi's wasn't even mentioned! Vegan pizza!)
Also looking for decent attractions to take them to, things to do. I have a list, but if you have any personal recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

Pi is okay, I'm not in love with their pizza but they have vegan pizza. I really dig Local Harvest Cafe and Sweet Art personally. As for things to do? I'm kinda lame, city museum? I don't know much about the transportation system or hostels so that's why I was a wash with suggestions earlier.
