Not Vegadeli, unless to you fancy means you pay too much for too little.

Hi!! I'm in Columbia! :-) Sycamore is very fancy and classy, and they will make vegan food for you, but they'll charge you the same fore a plate of veggies as they would for a steak. They are way into local, seasonal foods and the atmosphere is nice. We have lots of veg friendly places if you aren't concerned about fanciness while your here though. Main Squeeze is my favorite. It all Veg with good vegan options, juices, and smoothies. Bangkok Gardens is not like any other Thai I've had but it's really good and they can substitute vegan oyster sauce. I adore India's House and the proprietor is a super sweet vegetarian lady. We have lots of good Sushi but Osaka is my favorite. It's also the least classy and most laid-back and family friendly. Uprise is yummy with good veg options and is also in the same building as the indie movie theater and movie rental store. Cafe Berlin is a hippie establishment and can be hit-or-miss, but when it's good it's really good. My favorite coffee house is Coffee Zone and you can get a great hummus plate there too. I'm sure I'm missing some good ones, but I hope that helps!

I didn't know much about fancy places myself so I asked some friends on Facebook. Here's what I got.

Thanks everyone for the help! I'll share the list with my sister and hopefully a few will work out for us. I'll post back where we ended up going too, so others know!

I'll be going to school in St. Louis in the fall. I'm really happy to hear about a vegan bakery.

I probably can't. Sorry.
The City Museum is a pretty cool place. It's not a museum at all, but kind of a playground made of art. The Arch is kind of cliche, and in my opinion kind of lame. The are some cool places to eat on South Grand, near Tower Grove park. Also, there's a small Vietnamese place in south city with very good vegan food. It's called Bahn Mi So 1 -- check out the mung bean spring rolls. There's a laid back little coffee house called World Cafe (I go there a lot). Sweet Art is a cool little vegetarian place in the Shaw neighborhood (just north of Tower Grove park) that serves good vegan cupcakes.
Hope this helps.

Does anybody know of there are any good vegan eats near Wash U.? I have a reunion there next month, and I'm sure things have changed a lot since I was last there. I hate driving in STL, so I'd like to stay close by if possible. Thanks.

You can check out PuraVegan Cafe. It's mostly raw, and totally vegan. They have erratic hours, so you could call or check online ahead of time. They're located not far at all from Forest Park, off Forest Park Parkway. There's also a place called The Green Bean, in the Central West End, on Euclid Ave. It's all salads, with a make your own salad option, and it's pretty cool. There's more places I could recommend, but they would probably be further than you would like to drive. Let me know if you have any questions, though!

If you like Thai food, there's a place called Thai Country Cafe on the Loop. It's a pretty short drive. It's closed on Mondays.

Hey guys! I'm officially moving to STL (mid-summer)! I'm going to grad school at WashU, and I have exactly one burning question:
where is the best coffee near washu? because wow that is my #1 priority all the time.
hooray!

Woo! What did you do during your visit? So few PPKers actually live in St. Louis that we don't get to hear about their vegan stuff a lot.
Did you know you can get Chicago Diner cake and the Upton's wraps at Whole Foods?

I did not! that is very exciting! I mostly was scavenging vegan stuff from the free food I could get from the hotel's complimentary breakfast, but Alia (I forget her ppk name!! ) and I went to Pi (?) and had vegan pizza which was exceptionally delicious. I was only there for like 24 hours, but I also found that every coffee shop I was in had soy or almond milk and that made me very happy!

They even have vegan cookie sandwiches for dessert. Coffee near WashU, I think Kayak's is good. They are a Kaldi shop; Kaldi's is a local coffee chain, but the coffee is very good and they usually have vegan lunchy options on their menus. I absolutely love going to Local Harvest Cafe as well. Their flagship store is located near Tower Grove Park, but they have another location downtown now. If you're near Tower Grove, another great one to try is MoKaBe's Coffeehouse. Lots of vegan food on the menu, great coffee, and on Sundays they have a 100% vegetarian brunch, with plenty of vegan stuff. And yes, never underestimate the Whole Foods for easily accessible, yummy vegan food. I love the hot bar there, and the Chicago Diner packaged cakes are an addiction for me.

Hey all!
My husband just accepted a job in STL - so we are relocating from St Paul! We had a few hours to drive around a bit, we liked Tower Grove Park South & East so far, headed back this weekend to look around some more. We like crunchy hipster hoods - good for bike riding, walking, coffee shops, people watching. We are a couple of tattooed up, sober vegans in our 40's - who act like we are 20, with a big old german shepherd in tow. Looking for an old interesting property to put our mark on and make our own. We looked at parts of Dutchtown, wondering about others to check out? We live on the east side in St Paul now - not the nicest of hoods so we aren't scaredy cats when it comes to the locals and such.

hooray! WAIT WHAT I'm an undergrad here! We should meet-up! I know a couple of awesome places. I love Coffee Cartel, Kayak's is great, MoKaBe's is supposed to be the shiitake, but I haven't tried it. What grad school are you entering? OMG, I'm so excited! I know so few vegans in this area! We should have dinners! I hope I'm not coming across as creepy (whoops) The Whole Foods here is actually superb. Wish I could make it out there more often.
