Hey bird watchers, I have a problem. We have feeders set up in the front and back yard. They were both high traffic feeders. Last month for a few days we had mocking birds, they were really vicious with all the birds. Now our feeders are getting 0 traffic and it has been a few weeks.

What gives, what should we do? I miss our feathered friends. :(

Hmm. Tough one. You might try changing what you are putting in the feeders or even moving them a little.

Birds can get bullied away pretty easily. We have too many hawks around here, but we get a lot of hummingbirds around our Foxglove plants.

We still get the occasional humming bird...but the lil wee sparrows are MIA.

Mocking Birds and Blue Jays are the Frat Boys of the bird feeders. seriously. Yeah, change up the seed. Finches love niger and thistle seed. Cardinals love that songbird blend.

Grrr. Some birds are just the worst. I would find out what kind of food mockingbirds don't like. Safflower is a good bet, but sometimes the good birds don't like that either. And perhaps get a finch feeder bag with only thistle, so the mockingbirds can't even eat it.

Also, get a big painting of a mockingbird with a circle cross over it.

There is a mockingbird near our house that attacks me and Cuddles if we walk by his/her territory. Jerk.

We need a list of crasshole birds. So far we have: chickens, blue jays, mockingbirds

Really? We don't get mockingbirds here, I'm kinda shocked that Atticus Finch was wrong about them being nice birds.

Hey! That's not nice! Poor little chickens... *Hrumph*

I dunno about chickens...but gooses can be total turds!

Cowbirds! They take over other bird nests and kick eggs the eggs out.

Starlings. Grackles.

I am off to try and find new seed this weekend. Should I try a different location and a different feeder? I mean the birds in my yard a gone - zip for the birds...I heard there was a hawk nest that fell out of a tree down the road...The baby birds were delivered to a sanctuary. Is mom/dad bird freaking the other birds out around here?

I do not hear/see the mocking birds any longer....at least 2 weeks. When they were here it was like crazy bird fights...gang fights and super loud.

Oh yeah my mom has been attacked by starlings. And swans. Major jerks.

I spotted the mocking-jerks in the back yard. They were fighting so hard I had to break it up. I think one dented our shed....

Also, brown thrashers have more songs than mockingbirds, so they aren't even all that great.

So in that kids song where they say "mama's gonna get you a mocking bird"... They mean to say that mama totally hates you?

They means mama is gonna get you a second tier bird.

gooses are seriously the worst bird i have ever dealt with. In high school, a friend's parents had a bunch of them and they harassed his three legged dog, they would chase it and make it turn quickly so it fell over and then they would gather around him and heckle and or peck at him. horrible, horrible birds.

and peacocks, they will chase you and peck at you if they decide you shouldn't be in their territory.

You would get on well with my mum. When she was very little a neighbour's goose would lay waiting in the hedge for her to walk home from school. Every day it would chase her up the road trying to bite her. She's 72 now and still terrified of gooses, bless her.
