This looks so BOSS! I'm curious if you are using CYCO nutrients. It's the number one seller in your neck of the woods. I met the guys in person while they were visiting Btown, but I don't know enough about the line to tell you that everything is or is not vegan. Their nutrient line is in the "supernute" category; that is they are designed to speed up the growing process and I've seen the results, quite impressive.

No all I've used is potting mix, some bought compost, some of my bokashi compost, fortnightly seaweed fertilizer and a tiny bit of this Osmocote every now and then http://www.scottsaustralia.com.au/Osmoc ... arden_BedsI haven't seen the Cyco stuff, I'm very interested in hydroponics though.

What are those hanging bags for plants you have?! We need those! Oh man, I'm so psyched to see those exist, did you make them or buy them? I need to know!

I got them from a local market here, I don't think she has a website unfortunately. I've seen tomato planters in the hardware stores that are a bit similar though, the topsy turvy types.

Topsy Turveys had mixed reviews. Instead I bought Al's Flower Pouch with only 6 pouches because they were cheap as heck. They are a little bigger than expected which tells me that Al's standard size must be friggin massive.

I will update soon, promise! I'm moving house in a week so I'm going to try a square foot garden in the ground again. I will still have pots though. The grow bags are great but have pros and cons. Summers are pretty intense here so you have to water a lot and where I had them hanging they were out of the way of the rain, also because there is not much soil in the bags obviously that affects the roots. Overall it was good though, got lots of cherry tomatoes, a handful of eggplants and bell peppers, lots of chili, some dill and cilantro. I still have pots on the main part of the balcony, I mostly use them for herbs and 'Brazillian spinach' at the moment (it's so awesome for this climate, grows like crazy).
We are going into winter here but luckily we can still garden. I think my bed will have kale, collards, more spinach, lettuce, maybe some broad beans if I plant in time, zucchini (rondo di nice I'm looking at), I want to grow some purslane for salads but I might do that in a pot because it's a bit of a weed. I'll probably have more of the regulars like dill, cilantro, mint, basil (if it's not too cold), parsley, chard, beetroot, carrot. I'll probably grow radishes again even though I don't really love them...Isa, some good radish recipes please! :P I want tomatoes, eggplant and bell peppers again but I'll have to wait.

This post is so inspiring. I really, really want to utilize the balcony we have and those hanging bags would be perfect! When we get sun, we get a lot of sun on that side. I'm going to insist that my bf and I head to the gardening center this weekend to see about a few of them.
The only "problem" is I have no idea what I'm doing. Do I have to start the seeds some how or can I just cram 'em in one of those bags and see what happens?

I am going to take a picture of my balcony tonight to post for you guys. Last year I did 1 tomato plant.......then in October I went Veg and decided I was going to grow a crepe ton of veggies. I have: lettuce, 2 types of chard, 2 types of kale, radishes, carrots, beets, 2 types of peppers, 3 types of tomatoes, okra, cukes, fennel and herbs!!! I love all of my green babies :)
