So we have a big plastic trash can that i've been using for yard waste for years, so I decided to use that for potatoes. I saw some sweet potato plants for sale at my local hardware store that already have really long leaves/shoots, will those work for the mass producing that I want or should I get seed potatoes?

Oh I can't wait to see how this works for you guys. I can't remember, but I think my brother said he did this with great success. It may have been someone else. It is too dang hot here now to try it. Maybe in the fall I will try and catch up.
Is anyone doing this? I'd like to hear some updates about how it works.
My trash can potatoes are still growing. I added some dirt yesterday. I don't think you harvest potatoes until the fall, so we've still got a bit of a wait.
I use a big smart pot. you can fold over the sides and let them up as the taters grow.

Did anyone succeed at a potato tower this last year?

we didn't do a tower, per se. we had this old bamboo shade we got rid of and i cut it in half lengthwise to make two really long pieces of bamboo and we made a bed in that (it's covered in snow right now, otherwise i would take a picture for you). anyway, it totally kicked asparagus and we had a ton of potatoes in a pretty small amount of space (7+ lbs of potatoes in space that was maybe 2'/ 2.5' across and about 2' high).
i'm really looking forward to doing a few more potato beds this year.
eta: i checked the link again and basically we did the exact same thing except way way shorter.

I'm doing container veggie gardens this year. I'm in a losing battle with weeds in my yard.
I saw a vegetable stand that had used stair stringers to stack pots of veggies. It was big and painted hunter green. I want one. kinda like this but bigger.
