they were stored in my sunroom with my envelopes of seeds on a book shelf. it's the coldest room in the house but also has the most windows so there is a large possibility that a lot of sun was shining on it even though that room is typically cool and is also the room the dogs go in and outside from so the door gets opened alot and cold air comes in.
i think plastic was just a bad idea. i think i was even thinking that when i did it. my bean and pea seeds also went into ziplock bags and they seem fine.
i put my small potatoes that i harvested in a paperbag and put them in the basement. it is a finished basement so the heat does go on occasionally but in general it's much colder than the rest of the house.
i havent checked on the potatoes yet. hopefully they are not also a science experiment

Any bulbs or swollen roots (like garlic and potatoes) retain a lot of moisture and won't store for long in plastic, unlike seeds. My stored potatoes are sprouting pretty heavily at this point too, so I think I will pot them up, as it is still too cold/soggy to plant them out.
