You should try to come! Lycophyte makes pie iron sandwiches and shows us weird bugs. We eat far too much food and make terrible jokes. I didn't know anyone the first year we had veganstock and it was my birthday!
I have to do because if I don't get an espresso milkshake, someone is going to suffer and die.

i have social anxiety and a caramel cluster of other stuff, and i had an awesome time at veganstock 1.0, so if you can convince yourself to go you should! i would say go early so you can meet people gradually, i think that was the key for me- i met a few new people each day instead of the whole group all at once. but i was hypomanic the whole time and it turned out okay. also they won't be offended if you have had enough social interaction and need to go hide in lycophyte's tent hammock for an hour or two.

hmmm. also i can fly round trip to nyc for $50 plus fees. hmm.

it costs the same if i fly in to tobyland and out of nyc. iiiinteresting. also i like roadtrips. and i have a driver's license now so i can do more than just sleep!

The drive from my house is groovy because I don't take the expressway so we see old time touristy Florida. South Carolina is ...something to behold but I've met some nice people there. Toby sleeps, complains and reads. Sometimes he plays video games and complains again.

i'm good at sleeping. i also drive. not at the same time as the sleeping. also i am part 12-year-old-boy so i can entertain/be a bad influence on toby.

Okay the people I'm house sitting for are coming back on the 6th, so I can come! But I'd need 1-3 other people from the NYish area to come to do a road trip down and split gas and stuff. Any takers??

Jilly is coming from NJ and Bergedy is coming from CT/MA. I think Bergedy may be looking at flying but I'd definitely ask Jilly, you might have to message her or FB her if you have her on FB. We can figure out details but last year both of them showed up to our house in MD and we continued onto NC together.

Well if I get assigned to do a campfire talk you are coming up to Mt Pisgah anyway.

Also, Mt Pisgah is at 5kft elevation...which would mean it would be 10deg cooler up there than Lake Powhatan. But I'm not complaining because I live 2miles to Lake Powhatan now, as you know.

What's important, Lycophyte, is if there will be avocados.

How did I just now see this thread?!? I'm done with school and have gobs of vacation time saved up! I want to be there sooo bad this year! Is there some FB thingy I should know about to keep up with the plans??

I'm looking at flying down. If I did that would I need to rent a car, or would someone be willing to pick me up and shuttle me around? I'm looking at the Asheville airport, not the farther away ones. Airfare is reasonable right now, so I'd like to book it soon!

Lycophyte (I almost typed Bryophyte!)... would it be totally miserable that time of year to stay and actually hike the week before or after?

I have a full set of camping gear, hammock tent included. And doubles of a bunch of things if someone needed something. I've never flown with my pack and gear, but I think I can make it work... by shoving it in my larger suitcase or something and leaving the stove fuel at home.

Sorry for all the questions... I just got really excited when I saw this and realized it might be possible this year for me to come!!

Do it! Monkeytoes rented a car the year she came. I'm sure someone would be able to get you at the airport though. If you are coming a week in advance, though, you'd probably want your own car for a bit if you were driving out to a bunch of hikes.
If not, someone could get you and take you to the campsite. Friday came last year with no car and enough of us had vehicles at campsite so we could drive people who weren't mobile.

I wouldn't need a car to do the extra hiking... I'd just get on the AT and go, assuming that I would somehow make my way back to the airport! I'm not sure if I want to do that or save the vacation days for a different trip (and just take enough time off for the PPK meetup).

Good to know that I could do the PPK meetup without a car. I'm also okay with hitchhiking and bumming rides from new acquaintances if need be.

Give me a few days to feel it out at work and see if I can actually get the time off. I think everyone else is vacationing in July so August should be doable. If anyone else is flying in/out, I can try to time it at the same time as them. It looked like there were a few flight options from here to Asheville that were all the same price.

I want to come! Veganstock 1.0 was so much fun, and I was all the way up in Watkins Glen last year. My parents won't be around that week in August, and it's too far of a trip to want to make by myself. I just don't know if I'll be working or not.

Pi, we should also have enough cars and we'd be happy to pick you up and drop you off. Mr nil and I will be there from the 12th to the 16th although we will probably be lateish on the 12th. You might want your own car though if you come early or stay late.

The good thing about Asheville hiking is the mountains which tend to be cooler.
