Hello all!

I'm new to the NC area. I'm not sure what the "triangle" area is...I'm in Jacksonville, which is around ~2 hours from Raleigh...AKA any civilization whatsoever.

Hey TBC!

The "Triangle" is Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and the "Triad" is Charlotte and whatever else. You can say you're from "coastal NC" and I, stuck in Fayetteville, go with "the sandhills." :D You marine and/or married to a marine? I'm an army wife.

I'm married to a Marine, yes!

It's such a culture shock down here. I went from being able to buy any vegan special product I wanted blocks away from where I worked, to having to take special trips just to find some Daiya cheese!

Finding gainful employment, especially with a degree, seems impossible in "coastal NC" =/

I understand!! I'm from CT/ME. Where are you from? My high school best friend is married to a Marine so they're out there somewhere in Jacksonville. There's a health food store in tow but it's the most overpriced place ever - I go to the Whole Foods and Trader Joes in Raleigh sometime, but it's a little more than an hour each way.

I lived in Raleigh and Clayton from 2003-2005 and I've lived in Fayetteville for 3 1/2 years - I have a BBA and tons of experience and I have had the worst luck looking for jobs. All the bosses I had in the Raleigh area sucked and in Fayetteville, apparently people looking for jobs mark craigslist want ads as spam so they can narrow down the pool applying for jobs :/ I just found what sounds like the perfect job, so we'll see. BLARGH.

I'm originally from Staten Island in New York.

I've been to the health food store. I was so desperate for some vegenaise the other day I spent eight dollars on a jar. Woops!

We used to be stationed at Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn!

Yeah, I got pissed at the HFS the other day because the tiny vegenaise was $6.50 so I stomped out without any.

Oh wow, small world! My ex boyfriend lived in the Ft. Hamilton area, and I spent all of my college years in the Ft. Hamilton/Bay Ridge area!

Welcome to NC, TBC!

And, just for clarification, the triad is actually Greensboro, High Point & Winston-Salem.
I live in Clayton, just southeast of Raleigh. I do the majority of my shopping in Raleigh, but there is now a little shop in Clayton that carries some vegan basics.

I know it's still a drive for you, but closer than Raleigh...there's a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's in Wilmington.

I'm in Wilmington! We have a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe's, and two coops (Tidal Creek and Lovey's Market). Plus a fairly decent variety of restaurants with vegan options, though to my knowledge we don't have a single veg*n restaurant in town. I think we're getting there, though!

My husband and I are in the Raleigh area a lot for work, so this thread will be insanely useful for us!

Hi everyone! I'm a graduate student at NC State conducting interviews for my masters thesis right now. I'm in the sociology department and researching vegan and vegetarian men. I came across this thread by accident, I'm on here a lot looking at recipes, being a vegan myself. So I thought- hey! Why not see if anyone out there is interested! So if you're a veg man in the triangle and would like to participate in my study, please contact me by e-mail (mmycek@ncsu.edu) or phone (5183122977). The study requires one interview that will last about an hour. You also need to be at least 18 years old.
