another restaurant recommendation outside of toronto. http://www.classicindiancuisine.com/classic indian in waterloo; the only place in the region that serves dosas! i had the crispy masala dosa. it was an enormous funnel of perfectly cooked dosa filled with deliciously spiced chunks of potato and green peas, served with spicy sambar and chutney. it came with a coconut chutney and some kind of dairy-based sauce, but when i said i couldn't have dairy, the waitress brought out three different other kinds of chutney (tamarind, mango, and nawabi - a mix of cilantro, mint, and green chilli) ! it was absolutely fantastic.

http://www.veggielicious.ca/Sooooo... who's ready to eat? anyone planning to eat somewhere new because of veggielicious or just planning to take advantage of the deals at places you already love? I've never been to Udupi palace, but several of you have recommended it and their special is chhheeeaap! I'm gonna get some veggie co-workers in on this a plan a food feild trip. I'm also curious about this The Beet place. Anyone ever been there? yay or nay? Some places I already a fan of have posted some good deals I may want to take advantage of: Bunner's (snack pack?! awesome!), Vegetarian Heaven, M&B yummy and Sadie's. Also, (kind of surprising) but Licks? Nature chilli, is that new? anyone tried it. I have to admit that I do buy the nature buggers at my local No Frills and occasionally go to the Licks out in Mississauga. Anyways, your thoughts everyone...

I'm just waiting for my hair to dry and I'm about to take a little trip down to Panacea and then have lunch at either Loving Hut or Fresh, depending. Yay! It's a beautiful day in the city and spring is springing!

i've been to the beet! it was pretty good, not crazy impressive but good. i've only been once, though, so i can't say much. i had a burger.
also, nature chili is good! i like nature burgers too, and will occasionally make a lick's oakville trip when visiting my parents in georgetown.
side note, i ate a vegan taco, flauta, and enchilada at rancho relaxo last night. omg.

woah. The seitan burrito from Hot Beans was SERIOUS BUSINESS. Um, dare I say it was the best burrito I've ever had? Basically, you need to just go there right now. Trevor had the yuba tacos and judging by his "mmmmmm"s muffled by mouthfuls, I think I can say he really enjoyed his as well. And donuts! DONUTS!

I've been meaning to try one of the burritos at Hot Beans, but I always end up getting the tacos (or last time the very fantastic nacho plate!!!)
So much good food going on in Toronto right now.

i'd be interested in a potluck group, but not for a while. i'm kinda house-hopping right now so i don't have a good space to host. or to even make/store food. unless you're all interested in eating endless curries made out of stuff i found at the back of the freezer :P

So about hot beans. And not to start anything, but i don't think the place is for me. Their coleslaw was great and so were the jackfruit tacos. But I ordered the seitan burrito too and it was not very good. HUGE chunks of sometimes very dried out seitan, with a.. not so yummy flavour. I also didn't really enjoy their doughnuts (that I have only had once-a few weeks ago). Also, their service.. non-existent. If it was my place, I'd try to be a bit friendlier towards customers. I also had a weird conversation with one of the owners-who made it seem like she wasn't one of the owners. Strange. Is the love because there aren't that many vegan 'fast-food' choices in Toronto?

And the girl at the counter was really lovely. That's too bad about your experience. I'd go back again and again!

i finally made it to hot beans! got the seitan burrito and a lime coconut donut. the burrito was so filling i could only eat 1/3 of it at a time, but holy fork was it delicious. the service was fine. i think the one guy who made my burrito got a little impatient with me because i was saying "SAY-tin" not "say-TAHN"...lololooll, but other than that, i was thoroughly satisfied. :> the dude with glasses and slicked hair was tres handsome.

You guys! Where should I go for dinner with my long-lost bff in May? After not really researching at all (and I'm really excited to go with MeShell for lunch at Hot Beans on the 23rd, so not there) I'm considering Fressen or Vegetarian Haven. Am I totally off-base? We would like something comfortable where we can get a nice drink or two.

VEGETARIAN HAVEN VEGETARIAN HAVEN. i would always recommend this place over fressen, for food, service and full dessert menu, but they don't serve alcohol... fressen is pretty good, but it's quite expensive and they don't bring your plates out at the same time - they just bring each one out as it's ready. so you and your friend could get a few appetizers and share them while enjoying some drinks. it is a really nice atmosphere. pretty dark, very cosy.
