12th Street Bakery did vegan donuts this past Tuesday and it seems to be a regular thing going forward? I didn't make it there, though, so I can't vouch for them. I'm not sure if it's just at the Mueller location or not.

Also not donuts but there is a new place called Fat Cats dessert cafe (by the Black Star co-op) has all organic, vegan desserts and includes some pretty good pastries, though the menu changes daily.

Have you been there? At first I thought it was an all vegan place but then reading the menu it says things can be made vegan so I was wondering what the dealio is.

Oh, I forgot y'all are getting a Voodoo! I'm so jealous; I don't know why they won't give us one in Seattle.

We're definitely going to Mr. Natural at some point. We're still talking dreamily about the taquitos and albondigas we had there two years ago.

I'm so excited for this trip.

I think people have food covered. Other things I would do (sounds like we have similar interests):

Downtown-ish (near main Whole Foods)
BookPeople and Waterloo records across the street
Toy Joy
Tears of Joy, a hot sauce store

North Loop/Burnet (Vegan Nom area)
Great Hall Games and BookWoman next door.
Monkey Wrench books, though they have limited hours.
Breakaway Records (sells actual vinyl records)
Lots of thrift/vintage stores on North Loop and Burnet Rd
A-Town, artsy stuff

South Congress/South 1st (Bouldin Creek area)
Rabbit Food Grocery!
End of an Ear (music store)
South Congress Books
And lots of shops all along South Congress

Elsewhere
Umlauf sculpture gardens, which is free
Alamo Drafthouse, which now has vegan food
Wonderland, eco-inspired gifts and home decor

Mollyjade, thank you for that! I've added the new-to-us places to our map/list.

We went straight to Arlo's last night. Bliss.

Yay! It was fun hanging out with y'all tonight!

I would also add that Friday is the kickoff to ACL Music Fest and if you want to go see a bunch of bands you could easily get a scalped one day pass near the gate. If you are in no way interested in that, I would seriously avoid Barton Springs, Zilker (it's mostly closed off for the fest) or really anything nearby including my beloved Unity Vegan Kitchen because parking will be non-existent and traffic will be a nightmare from Lamar to Mopac. So stay on the East side of Lamar Blvd from Friday on! Seriously, not joking.

Jessica, thank you for that! I was wondering what we should know about navigating the city after ACL starts.

I'm so glad we met you and got to hang out today! Highlight of the day, for sure. I hope we get to see you again soon!

In less than 2 days, I had two cherry limeades and two Arlo's burgers. In heaven. I'm still dreaming about Bouldin Creek's tofu scramble, too.

It's mostly vegan. All baked goods are vegan (and are pretty good, though their desserts are pretty much limited to coffee shop staples like muffins, scones, brownies, and cinnamon rolls -- but they had cake donuts yesterday). They have lots of vegan ice cream flavors with tons of toppings (pretty much just like Sweet Ritual), and they have waffle cones and bowls and you can also get ice cream on a Belgian waffle. I have not actually eaten their ice cream yet! They use those Let's Do Organic sprinkles which I don't love. All their coffee drinks can be made vegan, and I think they have three nondairy milks, but they also have dairy milk as well as a bunch of dairy ice cream flavors. Pretty sure they just opened this month so I don't think it's quite up to full speed yet. I hope they get more options and outdoor seating soon. Service is kind of slow and there aren't many tables.

Only 1.5 days left before we head home. We're ready and not ready. Austin is great but we miss the cat and dog. We were really hoping to meet some PPKers while we were here.

We're being very strategic about our next few meals!

Hello again Austin friends! I am going to be in town for a work conference and have been tasked with finding a fancy (aaaaah) place to eat, where preferrably I can get something good too. Pretty much everyone else going will be omni but they are open to eating anything (!!) and an all vegan restaurant would actually be okay (yes!). Can anyone make a recommendation for an upscale place? Or at least just not a bar or food truck? i want that but other people don't!

I am so freaking excited to be back in Austin for a few days eating good things. I am going to try to inhale so many tacos so fast.

Here's a list I wrote about fine dining, I'd say TRIO at the four seasons though!

Doggie Style did open and they're great. Austin also has a vegan trailer on the east side called The Great Y'all with Asian style bar food.

And The Beer Plant opens today! An all-vegan bar/restaurant. That is exciting!

PPK is dying, so I guess the place for Austin vegan info is one of the Facebook groups. There are many. VRA (http://veganaustin.org) is still around, but not very active. Forums on the internet seems to be easier to organize and use than a Facebook group. Oh well.
