Any one have suggestions for awesome day hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park? We're going to be there this Sat and Sun, looking to do about 15 mi/day (doesn't have to be on one trail).

Oh man, so many great hikes in RMNP. My favorite is Lake Haiyaha. It's a super neat hike and this is the end result:


It can be reached from the Bear Lake trailhead or Glacier Gorge trailhead (the latter of which is longer and a bit more difficult, or so I've heard). We started at the Bear Lake trailhead and hit up Dream Lake and Emerald Lake along the way, and altogether (with the short side trips to Dream and Emerald) it was about 6 or 7 miles round trip.

So beautiful! Gem Lake is a really nice hike too. Incredible views the whole way up, and you end up here:



Edit: I have also heard awesome things about Calypso Falls. It is home to the Calypso Orchid, which apparently isn't found anywhere else in the world.

We ended up doing the loop starting at Bear Lake and took a side trip to the Loch and Andrews glacier.

Calypso Cascade! Did you see the Calypso orchid? Apparently it's only found in RMNP.

No, I was really bummed we didn't! I think it blooms in May and June so we were too late :(

Agh!! This makes me miss Colorado so much!!

I have fond memories of calypso cascade. It was one of the first hikes my family did and we have great pictures of us on that trail. I miss going to the mountains.
