I'm assuming that Vancouver is my best bet. I really, really, really want to make the Burmese tea leaf salad I used to devour in San Francisco, but a trip to Burma is sadly too far on the horizon.

I have never heard of anyone finding them. On one blog a woman said she ordered them from the UK and they were moldy when they arrived. I have made my own semi-fermented tea leaves using sencha, olive oil and white vinegar and it was really good! If you google around for tea leaf salad recipes you can find the "cheatimg" way.

RIGHT?! It really is the most amazing dish ever.

I will keep you posted. Nebraskalaska, that sounds pretty good, thanks!

I like the Burmese recipes in the Asian Vegan Kitchen but I still haven't figured out how to master fried crispy shallots. I want to go to Burma! And learn from the Burmese. They make my favourite kind of food: full of different textures, tastes, acidity, spice, saltiness, etc... all the good things. And so veganizable.

ooh! Vijita! your post inspired me to look up Burmese restaurants in NYC and I found a link to a Burmese Food Festival pretty close to where I live in Queens THIS SUNDAY! I never would have known about it without this thread. THANK YOU!
