That place looks awesome and has a tiki bar too?!
But sadly I think it's probably too hip and happening for us. Looks like a great place to party not so much a great place to stay and relax. We will definitely be going to Nuba though!

Anyone else going to the bake sale at Nice Shoes in October? I think I saw something on Facebook about this but can't remember who posted it...it's a Friday night maybe? I'll check the website. I'm a quick one.

I'd be RIGHT up for going to that. What do the proceeds benefit?

I've been back in Vancouver (permanently! gulp!) since Wednesday. I went to Nice Shoes today and replaced my wallet (which is totally and completley falling apart at this stage) and also bought my first Jokerz bar and some chai flavoured (awesome) lip balm. They don't sell shoes in my size, really, but it's a great wee shop!

I am LOVING Vancouver's style at the moment. And I haven't even had nice weather. Man, what a great city!!

Could use a bit more chat on here, dudes.

Now that I'm back, can someone tell me if Bubble Tea (with pearls) is vegan? (PLEASE SAY YES, PLEASE SAY YES, PLEASE SAY YES.)

As long as you get one that doesn't have dairy milk in it it is. The vegan pizza place has bubble tea!

I am broke too, but I get my first big fat paycheque (first small paycheque) in the first week of October.

What kind of work are you looking for?

Hi all!
I am a Spanish guy and I will be travelling to Vancouver next week (30th October). OK, you know, there are 44 pages of text behind me and I am feeling a bit lazy about reading all of it... so, can you give me some quick recommendations for my trip? I will be there like for 5 days, and I will be staying in the Marriott Pinacle hotel (West Hastings Street). Basically I am looking for nearby restaurants, cafes, bars, places to eat.
Also, I will have some spare time there and of course I want to enjoy the city. Some nice places to visit? Nightlife?

Thanks!!

If you like museums check out the Police Museum, it is cheap and really interesting with confiscated wacky homemade weapons and a really good morgue exhibit.
There is a vancouver restaurant recommendation thread somewhere that you can check out for food places.

Ideally non-profit/advocacy work. Realistically? Anything that will pay the bills. Sigh. forking economy.

Dude, I dunno! I never really found that stuff in Vancouver. But I lived on the west side, a veritable ethnic eats no man's land by Vancouver standards. I'd buy corn husks and stuff in Victoria.

Enlighten us, Vancouverites!

I'm going to give this place a shot tomorrow... http://www.los2amigos.com/

I'm absolutely convinced that if I found a latin foodstuffs in Glasgow, it will definitely be possible in Vancouver.

Oh yeah! That place looks great. I remember pointedly planning to go there but then never ever finding myself near 41st. Report back! Arepas will be yours!

Dubs, that place just has hot sauces, chips, and their own brand of hummus/guac/salsas and stuff. Very little imported stuff...but it is a good place to visit because their guac is amazing and their chips are so fresh! Got me through an entire Canucks season when I lived a block away. :)

any kind of specific things you are looking for? the West Valley Market just off Davie and Bute is run by an Asian family but has a bizarre number of awesome Mexican imported products.

Just to follow up... Los Dos Amigos had HARINA PAN, no problem at all. Guy who runs the shop is quite the character. Asked me several times which latin american country I was from and then where my (imaginary) boyfriend was from. (Me: "I'm from Marpole. I just like arepas.") I found ready made SOFRITO (byeeeee needless hours of cook time - sorry Terry)! 3 different kinds including one with no MSG. When I asked the owner if it was okay he told me 'I don't know. I don't cook. My wife... she cooks.' Dude, you own a specialty grocery store. Sort it out.

'Chancied' with the EZ sofrito for Viva Vegan columbian red beans and didn't notice them being any less delicious than normal. The had tamale husks, massive bags of dried beans, hot sauce, good selection of herbs... I'll be back.

TV was playing the Baptist channel with the volume turned up to 11.

In other Canuck learns where all the vegan groceries are in a 'new' city news... I spent over an hour canvassing Chinatown trying to find mock chicken in a can. Weirdly, NEVER a problem in Glasgow - just go to a chinese supermarket, done deal. Maybe there's more buddhists in Glasgow? Anyway, got a hot tip from a vegetarian dim sum restaurant and got on the bus to 19th and Main. (Turns out they meant 17th and Cambie, so that was another 40 mins on the clock but hey ho.) VEGGIE FAVOUR IS AWESOME. At first I was annoyed at paying $7.99 for a pack of fake chicken, when the same amount (two cans of mock) would have cost me £3 back in Scotland. But Veggie Favour chicken is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHICKENY! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT CHICKEN! Followed my recipe for what I like to call 'crispy arepa chicken' as normal and was blown AWAY. All omnivores (including real life MEN) at dinner all, 'OMG this rules.'
