Hi all,

It's been too long since our last Chicago area potluck! Last time, VeggieNextDoor and I thought we should finally do a PPK-themed potluck, cooking from Isa's and Terry's many cookbooks.

How about a Sunday, April 19 or 26? If those dates don't work for people, we can push it to May. Anyone want to host? Or if the weather is nice by then, maybe we can have a picnic outdoors.

Let's get planning!

Great idea for a theme! I think my life is starting to calm down a little bit, so hopefully I'll be able to make it to this one.

Thanks for getting the planning started on this, Pepperpot! Both of those dates work for me, and I'm always happy to host if no one else can.

Thanks for offering to host, Diana!

Rhizo (and anyone else who wants to attend), is there a date that works better for you?

I think the 19th might be a little better for me, but right now either looks ok.

Let's make it the 19th!

Diana, would we be able to sit outside so Rhizo won't have to deal with kitty allergies? Hopefully, the weather will be nice enough by then.

I think I might focus on Isa Does It. I bought it a while ago but I've hardly used it, so this will be a good chance to experiment!

Unfortunately we still don't have any yard furniture yet! We're hoping to get some this summer though.

If no one else can host, maybe we could pick an area park since those would definitely be Kitty-Free :-)

I don't mind hosting, but parking is an issue in my area, also there's a chance I might have another foster kitty soon.

Anyone else willing to host? Or know of a nice outdoor space where we can do a picnic potluck?(assuming the weather cooperates!)

Hey, I can do this! I have cats but wouldn't mind outdoor hosting if the weather is nice. I also have a front porch with roof that is kind of nice to sit on if it is rainy but not windy or cold... I live in Logan Square, at Kedzie and Armitage. It's not too hard to find a (free) parking spot within a block or so of my house usually, and I'm off a few bus lines and about a 15 minute walk from the Blue Line.

Thanks for offering to host, Claire!!

What time works for everyone? How does noon sound?

Has anyone decided what they're going to make? Right now the Macadamia Blondies with Caramel Maple Topping from VWAV are sounding really good. And I've wanted to try more from Isa Does It, and either the Sesame Slaw or the Dragon Noodle Salad have caught my eye.

Mmmmm, pepperpot, those all sound soooo good!
Pretty much any time works for me.
I'm leaning toward cooking entirely out of Veganomicon and making: Fresh Rosemary Focaccia, and then Creamy Klamata Spread and Sweet Basil Pesto Tapenade for spreading on the focaccia. I also considered Pear and Endive Salad with Candied Pecans if we need a salad. I might make Mango Pear Pandowdy if we need more dessert. These would all be new recipes for me, but it's Isa and Terry, so you know it will probably be good!

Or, I could make the Paella from VEW, which I have made before and know to be delicious and a huge crowd pleaser.

Sooo...what do people think? Do you want to come to my place? So far it's looking like it will continue to be pretty beautiful out. Should I pm everybody my address and phone number?

Noon sounds fine with me.

I've been eyeing up those green lasagna rolls that are on the front page of the ppk for several days now. If I can find basil for cheap enough at the cheap vegetable store on Saturday, I think I'll try those out. Otherwise, I've always wanted to make the chesapeake tempeh cakes.

Noon works for me. Thanks so much, Claire for offering to host! Please do PM me your address when you get a chance.

So far I'm thinking of making the Rosemary Chocolate Chip Cookies from Isa Does It (dying to try them) and the Sesame Scrambled Tofu and Greens with Yams from Vegan Brunch (one of my favorite dishes ever... but I can't remember if I've ever made this for a potluck before??).

Claire, thanks for offering to host! It does sound like the weather will be nice this Sunday. Yes, please send your address!

Looking over my cookbook collection, I just realized that I've been neglecting Appetite for Reduction. I'll have to look through it tomorrow and try to decide on a savory dish.

I don't remember every having the Sesame Scrambled Tofu and Greens with Yams, and I've been to all of our PPK potlucks!

Yes Clare, please pm me your address. Is the Logan Square stop on the blue line the closest to you? If I don't drive, I'll do Metra to blue line. Thanks for hosting!

Holy crepe. I have tentative plans, but reading what everyone is talking about bringing, I think a PPK potluck trumps all plans ever.

Ok great! I will pm everybody when I get home from work tonight!

Holly, you should just bring whoever else you have plans with with you, because chicago ppkers obviously do the best potlucks ever.

Uh oh, has anyone else checked the weather forecast? I'm seeing 100% chance of rain on Sunday! Should we stick to our plans at Claire's place and hope for the best? Reschedule? Try to find another kitty-free place? What does everyone think?

In the event of rain, you're all more than welcome in my pet-free apartment. It may be a little cramped, but we've made it work before. However, if we decide to do that, can we make it 1pm, instead of noon? Or a May reschedule is fine by me, as well.

Thanks for offering your place, EmJaeDee! 1pm would work fine for me too. So what does everyone think?

ohhh. Well. Noon was perfect for me, because, um...the Blackhawks play at 2 and I'm a sportsnerd. I can make it work, though. Is it only a change of venue if it's raining? Claire's place is super close to where I'm going afterward.

EmJaeDee, where abouts do you live?

Regardless of where It's gonna be..iI just made the shopping list for the green lasagna rolls from the PPK blog. I'm made them before, and they are a serious undertaking, but the good people of the Chicago area PPK deserve lasagna rolls, damn it.

Sounds like EmJaeDee's place might be a better bet for tomorrow. I'd definitely be open to hosting the next one, when the weather will hopefully be more consistently warm and sunny! 1 is fine for me.

Okey-dokey! I live in Edgewater/Rogers Park. PM me if you need my address. The only other limitation of my hosting is that we have to wrap up around 3:30, because we have other commitments. However, 2.5 hours should get us some serious potluck time. :)

Don't forget to bring containers for leftovers!

Thanks, EmJaeDee! Mike & I are looking forward to seeing you all at 1pm tomorrow. Elizabeth & Brian from Evanston may also be coming, so if you don't mind, I'll shoot them your address in case they can make it.
