I actually tried their ginter pu-erh a few hours ago. Pretty good stuff. They are always out of doughnuts and muffins by the time I get there :)

Do you guys go to Fritz Pastry? YOU SHOULD! They have a decent vegan pastry selection and do donuts sometimes. I <3 that place.

Allllll the time. Their oatmeal pretzel cookies are heavenly, and I must say, I think their espresso rivals Intelligentsia.

For their anniversary thing, right? I was thinking of stopping there for an early dinner tomorrow.

The Lincoln Park Whole Foods is selling Ste Martaen vegan cheeses now!

Whoa, this photo turned out blurry. And uncropped. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure I've seen all the flavors. I've tried the muenster and smoked gouda, but the pepper jack is definitely my favorite.

Yeah I saw those but haven't tried them. They look like they might be similar in texture to those Uncheese cookbook recipes.

I like the texture of them. They're not as dense as the Follow Your Heart cheeses, but that's probably the most similar thing I can think of right now. They don't melt super well, and I've tried almost everything (microwave, oven, panini grill, stove top grilled cheese). There have recipes on their site for quesadillas and some sort of cheesy sauce that I haven't tried yet. I haven't tried the Uncheese recipes to know how they compare. I haven't really tried them straight up, just a nibble.

The flavor of the pepper jack was pretty good. It made tastier nachos than Daiya, though not as melty. They're nut-based, too, which I like. And they're local which is pretty awesome.

My girlfriend bought my tickets to a Cubs game in the beginning of May (a sort of graduation present) and I'm super stoked! We were hoping to make this an overnight thing, but money is tight. Her initial idea was to go down there on a Wednesday, hang out for the day, go to the game, go to a hotel, then get up, get some food and hang out a little bit, then head back to Michigan because she has class in the evening.

Her idea was finding a hotel downtown, parking at the hotel and just walking everywhere. However, I was thinking we could find a hotel cheaper in the burbs somewhere (my dad's found hotels in the burbs on priceline for like 45 bucks a night) however...that leaves us with the problem of parking. Are there any secrets to parking downtown for a reasonable price? Or...can you park at Wrigley a few hours before the game and walk from there? Is there even parking for Wrigley!?

Sorry for sounding like a rural outsider, but I figure you guys would have some helpful advice. I am certainly using this thread for food ideas...the Diner sounds lovely...

The annoying thing about Chicago is that all the hotels are either in the suburbs or in a high-rise downtown. Wrigley happens to be somewhat in the middle, about 5 miles north of the Loop. My dad's a bit of a tightwad, so whenever they come to visit, they stay in the north 'burbs. I'd suggest going that route, since you guys are low on funds, but keep checking all the discount hotel sites. You might find something in your price range, or close enough that you can make the trip something special.

If you stay in the 'burbs, your best bet for parking is probably the shuttle that starts at DeVry. It's about 2 miles from the field, but I don't know how early/late it runs. You can always park in one of the surrounding neighborhoods, but a LOT of it is permit parking surrounding Wrigley. That's hit or miss. There are neighborhood lots close to the field, but they can get pricey.

If you're not opposed to public transit, the CTA is another option. Wrigley's at the Addison stop on the red line. You can park in a neighborhood somewhere a few stops north or south and take the train down. You can also park a mile or so west down Belmont or Addison, but watch out for those parking meter boxes. Wherever you do park, your cheapest option is to park at least a mile away. Hopefully the weather will finally be nice enough that walking will be doable.

There are plenty of awesome things to do around Wrigley within walking distance. Pretty much all of Clark between Diversey and Irving Park is filled with shops and vegan friendly restaurants (Pick-Me-Up!). Boystown is a few streets over, as is the Chicago Diner.

Whatever you do, have fun! Wrigley is a beautiful field, and one of the best places to see a game.

Thank you so much! That is extremely helpful!

I am very excited about Wrigley. I've grown up a baseball fan and, even though I'm from Michigan, have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Cubs and have wanted to go to Wrigley for years!

A place called Urban Vegan ("Vegan Thai Cuisine - Salads/Wraps/Burgers") is opening up on Montrose, a little west of Ashland. It's replacing a Umaiya, a Thai and sushi place (that had few vegan options and often screwed up my order).

Also, any more news on that vegan deli that was posted about before?

Thanks for the tip! Will def check that out.

I haven't heard anything new about Native Foods, so I guess it's still slated to open this summer at Milwaukee and Honore.

This is so exciting! Walking distance from my place, horray! Is there any more information about this? Date that it's opening? Searching for urban vegan yields mostly the blog....

Walking distance from my place too! I live on Ashland & Wilson, approx

Also, I dunno about opening date and stuff, I'll take a look next time I pass it. This was actually all texted to me by my boyfriend this morning on his walk to the Montrose Brown Line, my asparagus hasn't left the apartment yet.

Anyone want to go with me to this MFA Benefit/opening night of the new vegan menu at El Nuevo Mexicano this Thursday?
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=218616248149227

It's anytime between 5 and 10, and it looks like they'd prefer if we made reservations. And I've got to figure out travel plans cause I'd be coming from Milwaukee, most likely.

I dunno if you're still looking for someone (as it's tomorrow) but I could go, but only until 7. So if there is space left close to 5, I could be down.
