Let's start planning our March potluck! We discussed the weekend of March 22-23 when we met at Chicago Diner. Does that still work for everyone? Any ideas for themes?

Hello-I am hoping to become active in a local veg group. Does this group still meet up pretty regularly?

Works for me. I'm liking the idea of picking a country or region: Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Ethiopian, Greek, Medeteranian, Middle Eastern, Korean, Thai? Somewhere else? But I'm open to other theme ideas too!

I would also be interested in learning more about joining in on the meet-ups.

Whenever we get together next, Mr. Oligosporus has kombucha scoby he'd be happy to share if anyone wants some. Just let us know so we bring it.

I'm not sure if I can attend until I get my work schedule for that week, but if I can attend I would love to, and I would be super excited to bring home a new baby scoby!

I like that idea! The only one we've done before was Mexican for a Cinco de Mayo potluck. My only idea was for a "Spring" theme, but it may be too early for that.

Hope you can make it, claire!

New people are always welcome! We're a pretty small group, and we try to get together for potlucks and restaurant meetups about once or month or every other month.

That weekend works for me!

My dishes may not be too impressive though since I will just be arriving back in the country that Friday from India(!)

I love the idea for a Spring theme but also am up for any country/region!

Does anyone have a favorite country/cuisine they'd like to be the theme? I'm up for any ideas, or the spring theme.

Anyone want to volunteer to host? Rhizopus Oligosporus needs a kitty-free location, right?

Yes, I do need a cat free location. If you guys are willing to haul way out to far flung suburbia, I can see if Mr. Rhizo is up to hosting. I'm also up for the spring theme. It's looking like we may be a very small group this time!

Which suburb are you in? I don't have a car, but I'm sure I can find a way to get there. I'd be happy to host, but for anyone who drives, street parking in my area is non-existent and the lot would cost over $20.

I'm in the Barrington/Crystal Lake area. The Metra line that goes to Harvard stops near me. I will PM you pepperpot, and anyone else who is interested.

I am available and interested! And also, still around. I have not been PPKing of late, due to extreme busy-ness, but I miss you all, and would love to potluck.

I'll PM you my address EmJaeDee. I'm also willing to go to pepperpot's if that is easier for everyone.

So, am I officially hosting? Are people really willing to venture all the way out here? I love hosting, and would be delighted to, and Mr. Rhizo is up for it. I just need to know if I should start cleaning!
I guess the spring theme seems popular. Should we go with that?
Sunday seemed more popular than Saturday when we talked about it at the diner. Do we still want to do Sunday? Either day works for me.

Thanks for the directions to your place, Rhizo! It's a bit of a trek for me, but if everyone else is fine with it, I'll do my best to make it. I'd be ok hosting too, except for the parking issue; the last (and only!) time I hosted, only 2 people showed up! I agree that Sunday is better.

Thanks Rhizo & Pepperpot :-)

We've been having minor car trouble lately so the downtown location would be easier for Mike & I, but I'll give it my best shot regardless of location :-)

I'm beginning to wonder if we should postpone it to the following weekend, March 30, so we have more time to plan? We still need to decide on the time and location, an do we definitely want to go with the spring theme? Would March 30 work for everyone, or is this weekend, March 23, better? I'm fine with either, just an idea since the responses here have been a bit sparse!

Good thinking Pepperpot :-) especially since I still have no idea what to make! March 30th works great for me, and I like the Spring theme. I'm thinking all the produce that should be popping up soon - asparagus, peas, leafy greens, strawberries, and last year I also received a lot of beets and turnips in my Spring CSA!

I can't do the 30th, but I am available for the 29th. However, if the 30th works best for everyone else, go ahead without me. I'm also still up for this weekend if everyone wants too, and I'm willing to host this weekend or the 29th, or go to pepperpot's. I'm just really bad at making decisions, so let me know what all of you want to do! And if it works out better to hold it at a cat filled home I will understand and wait until another time to participate.

29th works for me too! Maybe we could do later in the afternoon to allow plenty of time for cooking?

Any time on the 29th works for me.
If we are going with the spring theme, I've been thinking of making any of the following: VEW asparagus bisque (not the filters!), spring rolls, or the Oh She Glows salad with strawberry basil dressing. Or, I'm always up for making dessert.
