Hi Chicago (and Chicago area) PPKers!

I thought we could use this as a central thread for planning out the details of our potlucks, deciding on date/time/location/theme. Once we've got those down, we can start a new thread for each individual event.

So, to get started...when should our next one be? Late May? Early June? Any ideas for a theme?

I would be happy to try again with hosting an outdoor potluck in my yard. Early or mid June would be better for me though, since I'm helping a friend recover from surgery in late May.

Late May is busy for me, but I might be able to make it in June. I think picnic could certainly be it's own theme if we end up at a park.
I have way too many ideas for themes: pizza, tapas, fondue, or dim sum!
Country or region. If picking one country is too intimidating, maybe we could do a region: Middle East, Northern Africa, East Asia, South America etc.
Pantry Cleaning: pick an ingredient that has been hanging around way to long that you want to use up; that can of jackfruit that you've been afraid to open, the millet that you can't remember why you bought, or some of those lentils that were such a good deal for 50 pounds! Incorporated in this theme could be the idea of bringing something that you know you won't use or have way too much of in hopes of finding a good home for it with someone else.

Thanks for offering to host, Claire!

How about early June, maybe June 7 or June 14?

Great ideas, Rhizo! They all sound good!

Pepperpot - Great idea for a central thread!

Rhizo - I love all of your ideas, they sound really fun! If we wind up going with a plain picnic theme, maybe we could jazz it up by trying to use as much in-season produce as possible? Early June is Asparagus, Radish, Spinach, Peas, Strawberries, etc... or we could save that idea for later this summer once my Garden is up and running!

Claire - Thanks so much for offering to host - an outdoor potluck sounds amazing!

Mike & I could do June 7th but not June 14th. Don't feel bad if you have to potluck without us though, we'll be on our way to JAPAN!!!

Would June 7 work for everyone else?

I'm really liking the idea of the Pantry Cleaning theme! I can already think of several things I've been wanting to use!

The 14th would be better for me. Got an event on the 6th so I won't have much time to cook if it's on the 7th.

(But I can probably figure something out if it IS on the 6th.)

Either date is fine by me. Now I'm thinking of ingredients I want to use up too!

Any other preferences for either date? I'm leaning toward the 7th (sorry Hollie!) so Diana and Mike can come, since Diana's been a potluck regular for a long time.

Also, what time works for everyone? Noon? Earlier? Later?

I'm really liking Rhizo's idea for a Pantry Cleaning theme. Anyone else prefer a different theme?

7th would work for me. (As would the 14th.)

A regional theme sounds more appealing to me, but I'm open to pantry cleaning theme. If that is what we go with, be prepared to eat some serious quantities of bulgur and white beans from me. :)

The 7th works for me, and I like either theme.

It now looks like I will have an event to attend on the 14th, so the 7th would be better for me too. I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread for a potluck on the 7th, and we can figure out a theme there!

It's been way too long since our last potluck!!

Does some time in August sound good? The only weekend I can't do is Aug. 22-23. Otherwise, any other weekend is fine with me.

Any location suggestions or preferences? Does someone want to host, or should we do it somewhere outdoors?

Theme? Maybe this would be a good time to do something with in-season produce? Any other ideas?

Unfortunately, It looks like all my August weekends are already booked. Take lots of good pictures of all the yummy food I will be missing out on!

I would be able to go most likely! I have a fest out of town the second weekend, but I think that's all I have planned so far.

I think September would be better for me. I am also going to be out of town some weekends of August and have in town plans for others. What about the weekend after Labor Day? September 13? Weather should still be nice and there will still be lots of local seasonal stuff available if we want to stick with that theme (I do!).

I would be happy to host again.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can commit to anything in September at this point either. Please proceed assuming I'm not going to make it to this potluck, and get lots of pictures so I can pretend I was there!

Ok, shall we aim for Sunday, September 13 at Claire's place?

Any ideas for a theme? I was thinking maybe a sort of End of Summer Picnic with in-season produce. Or we could do another country/region.

Yes let's do it! I think an in-season picnic sounds great! If anybody wants to come who doesn't have my address and number from last time needs it, let me know.

Whoops. I forgot football season is starting...That's the day of Bears/Packers, so I probably won't make it.

(I am a dorky sports nerd. SHHHH.)
