Hello fellow GTAers! I need to pick up some berbere, any ideas on where I could find it? I'm sure there are loads of places, I'm just not sure where to start looking. Thanks!

Carlos' House of Spice in Kensington has it for a good price!

Thanks! I've never been there! When it's not freezing cold out I will need to venture to Kensington.

I love that place! I always stock up on black salt, paprika, berbere and hot curry powder when I'm there.

I must have walked past it a gajillion times and never noticed it! I'm excited now! Also, Kensington is a reason to devour a Hot Beans burrito. Nom.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest House of Spice in Kensington. I also have some recipes for berbere you can mix from household spices that I could dig up if you liked. I've made it before myself that way, but just googled a recipe. I think there's maybe a recipe in one of kittee's Papa Tofu books (the Ethiopian cooking one). I feel like I can't vouch for anything, though, having never tried berbere before so not knowing what to expect. I'll check my copy of Papa Tofu for a berbere recipe next time I get up off my lazy bottom here and report back!

Kittee has a berbere recipe for a paste in Papa Tofu. She suggests buying it pre-made, though. The most exotic ingredient on the list to make kittee's berbere paste is probably fenugreek seeds (not sure if you keep those on hand). Let me know if you want me to PM her recipe.
